A.Juknevičius put two wheels in a curve: we shook the plants because we lacked the patience to wait

“I suggested to Antanas such a tactic that the slowest truck, the one that started half a minute before us, needs to be turned as soon as possible. All the other remaining trucks started every minute,” said navigator Darius Vaičiulis after the finish.

“Not our day, although in the morning we agreed that we would open in the men today. I shook my plants and was about to take that truck that Darius was talking about right away. There were a lot of stones around the curve, although according to the road book there had to be a gravel road.

We caught that truck in the dust, we pulled out to the side of the track path, and there I left both wheels on the rocks and on a rock. And that is. And our performance to this day is over. It all went for about 8 kilometers, and then we drove like to the market with my grandmother’s eggs. The entire stretch of speed is in front of our eyes and we no longer have spare wheels. I can’t be mad at those stones, I can only be mad at myself. We had to endure about 20 kilometers, but we didn’t want to do that. But everything is okay. We finished and we are happy ”, the pilot Antanas Juknevičius shared his impressions of the day.

Eleventh speed section: from Al Ula to Janbu

The eleventh phase of 2021 stretched from Al Ulo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the washed shores of the Red Sea in Janbu. The Dakar soldiers were received for a journey of 598 kilometers, 464 kilometers of which required an activated combat regime. The longest and heaviest 511-kilometer stretch initially promised was shortened Wednesday night due to the razed section of the track.

In the speed section, this time two neutralization sections of 70 kilometers in duration and limited to a specific number of minutes were planned. His passing is not included in the total time of the speed section. Finally, the day ended with a journey of almost 132 kilometers to the penultimate home of this year’s Dakar, the bivouac, crossing the finish line.

On the ninth day: mixed start times

In the 11th speed section, Kreda’s crew started from 36th, although they finished 22nd on Wednesday. Ahead of the racing duo, dozens of racing teams from the Dakar, the slowest beast on the Dakar, waited in this speed section in the “DJ” class.

VIDEO: Juknevičius, who made a dangerous curve: we shot maybe four meters

Looking for space in this sandwich of vehicles and not having enough room to turn, the racers had to arm themselves with patience, eat more than a kilogram of sand dust, wait for the right moment to turn and try to stay on track where 4 percent of the wheels had to be stored. Sharp stones laid out on the pavement of the speed section. Organizers warned participants that the imposed stones could also be found in the dune segment. The price of such a coating for the crew is two perforated wheels in a curve.

Finally, after spending 5 hours and 20 minutes on the track, at 4.30 p.m. Lithuanian time, the crew reached the finish line of the eleventh speed section, provisionally in 32nd place.
