No time to relax, but the first sign is
Starting Friday, the number of COVID-19 beds in the therapeutic profile will be reduced from 70 at Kėdainiai Hospital to 45. The number of COVID-19 beds in resuscitation and intensive care will also decrease: from 31 to 28 beds in clinics from Kaunas and from 22 to 18 at the LSMU Kaunas Hospital.
Head of the Kaunas Region Management Group for COVID-19 Disease doc. Vaidotas Gurskis says that this decision is the first sign that shows the stabilization situation in hospitals in the Kaunas region. Although at the same time the associate professor adds that it is not yet time to relax.
“Although the virus is still spreading rapidly, the number of people who need to be treated in hospital for COVID-19 and its severe forms is gradually decreasing,” says the doc. V. Gurskis. – By reducing the number of COVID-19 beds, we will increase the availability of other health services for patients with other diseases. Every day we monitor hospital bed occupancy and patient flows in the Kaunas region and make strategic decisions on a daily basis so that all patients in the region receive inpatient medical services. “
The number of adapted beds for COVID-19 patients is reduced for the first time since October last year.
Head over next week
In the Santara clinics, as of January 13, 75% of all inpatient facilities for COVID-19 were occupied, that is, 155 patients were treated and the resuscitation and intensive care units accounted for 77%. (or 50 patients). Of these, there are 4 children with COVID-19.
In other institutions in the region, the situation was as follows: the Vilnius City Clinical Hospital occupied 67 percent. active treatment, resuscitation and intensive care sites: 77%; At the Vilnius Republican University Hospital – 55 percent. places for active treatment, resuscitation and intensive care – 38%, in the Medical Center of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania (Ministry of the Interior) – 30%. places for active treatment; Ukmergė Hospital – 52 percent. active treatment, resuscitation and intensive care sites – 57%; At Alytus S. “In the Santara clinics, compared to the previous week, we see a slight decrease in the number of patients with COVID-19 disease in both intensive care units and inpatient units. We can say that this is like a first breather for us, because after a long and hard work we no longer have 90 percent of the use of cribs.
The situation is also improving in the Vilnius region. If it remains so stable, next week we can think about reducing the number of places for COVID-19 patients in regional hospitals to resume the provision of other services there, ”said Aušra Bilotienė Motiejūnienė, Managing Director of VUL Santara Clinics .
