“Continuing employee education about threats to cybersecurity and how to use email safely helps prevent these types of cyber incidents in the most effective way, so specialists from the National Center for Cybersecurity will organize such training for the employees of the National Public Health Center in the near future, “says Deputy Minister of National Defense Margiris Abukevičius.
NKSC Director Dr. Rytis Rainys emphasizes that the investigation showed that not all institutions apply sufficient preventive control measures to prevent these types of cyber incidents, so the NCSC updated the recommendations on how to prevent said malicious code from entering the organizations’ computer networks.
“Strict email filtering policies are essential for cyber security, such as emails with attachments, executables, documents requesting content, blocking and delivering emails to users only after checking for malware. Warns R. Rainys.
This is the second major wave of infected emails in the last quarter, recorded by the National Center for Cyber Security. The first attempt to use Trojan.Emotet infected emails was recorded in 2020 in October. Emotet’s attacks have been similar to those of public authorities in other countries.
