Seimas President V. Čmilytė-Nielsen says that as COVID-19 morbidity statistics continue to improve, relaxation of some quarantine restrictions could be considered.
According to the president of Seimas, in the first place, the movement between municipalities could be liberalized, as well as renewed educational services for young students.
Relax movement restrictions
“I think there are reasons for such moderate optimism, but we can only say that (infections – aut. past.) the curve no longer climbs to the top to stabilize. Unfortunately, the percentage of positive tests is still high enough. Therefore, I think it is too early to celebrate an intermediate victory.
The restrictions, of course, worked, they were necessary. The situation needs to be constantly monitored, but so far there is only a slow climb on the curve. I believe that the results that would allow us to speak of a significant relaxation have not yet been achieved, “V. Čmilytė-Nielsen told” Žinių radio “on Wednesday morning.
According to the president of Seimas, as the situation continues to improve, firstly, restrictions on movement between municipalities and the education of younger students could be relaxed.
“As for the first mitigation, it is, of course, a question of movement between municipalities. Another thing, as we know students, primates are one of the first groups for which the tethers could be released. Live lessons could be updated.
But, again, this must be done once the established criteria are met. From what I can remember, the criteria are very specific and will probably be data-driven. I am glad there are no distractions, but goals have been set, after which it is possible to talk about mitigation, ”said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.
No exceptions are promised to the sick.
When asked if quarantine conditions should not be relaxed for sick people, the president of the Seimas says that decisions should be made in solidarity.
“The question is logical, but I think we must accept the restrictions in solidarity, even those who are fed up with COVID-19. Especially since we are very aware that immunity is not eternal, as I understand it, it lasts from three to six months, according to the latest data. Therefore, at some point, even after getting sick, COVID-19 returns to the ranks of those who can become infected, ”said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.
An immunity passport certifying that a person is not dangerous to those around them would also be considered.
As for the passport or immunity card, I think that if we do not do it, it will probably be from other neighboring countries or from the EU (imsis – aut. past.) We will be forced to access it sooner or later. When reactivating communications between states, returning to normal, an immunity card will be needed as a document that shows that you are safe for others.
I think this is a good idea and something inevitable that would be a useful and very logical solution to the problem, “he said.
Ski resorts will not open
After a weekend of social media spreading photos from various hills, ski resorts are asking to let them run as well. The companies say they can guarantee safe distances, and the fact that roller coasters accessible to all are lined up by skiers but ski resorts cannot operate seems illogical to them.
“Winter is really very beautiful, but in one way or another we have to go back to the fact that joint compliance with the restrictions is the only way to a faster normal life. It seems to me that throwing a type of entertainment, while very understandable, would still have a snowball effect. Just as COVID-19 adheres to solidarity, it seems to me that exceptions should be avoided ”, says the Spokesperson for Seimas.
According to V. Čmilytė-Nielsen, the opening of ski resorts would create a wave of dissatisfaction from other companies.
