When ski resorts ask for permission to resume operations, the Seimas Spokesperson states that business expectations are understandable, but in the context of a pandemic, exceptions would not be worth making.

“Winter is really very beautiful, but in one way or another we have to go back to the fact that joint compliance with the restrictions is the only way to a faster normal life. And it seems to me that launching a kind of entertainment, although very understandable, would still cause a “snowball effect” sooner or later, “Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen told News Radio.

He said restrictions should be followed as long as infection rates remain high.

“It just came to our knowledge then kovidu solidarity, it seems to me that exceptions should be avoided. Because, as I mentioned, one way or another, they will continue to cause outrage in other similar or similar entertainment businesses afterwards. Here there is still no such optimal solution ”, argued the President of Parliament.

The Health Ministry says it is not considering allowing ski resorts to resume operations as this would encourage gatherings and the risk of the coronavirus spreading.

“Currently, there is no discussion about the renovation of ski services and centers. It is emphasized that the activities of the ski resorts would be organized activities that encourage gatherings, queues such as ticket purchases, equipment rental, etc. Furthermore, the spread of the virus also increases during sports due to the deeper breathing, “the ministry said in a comment to BNS on Tuesday.

With the introduction of the quarantine, winter sports centers, like other leisure facilities, are banned.

With more snow falling, the country’s ski resort association asked the government on Monday to allow it to resume operations. The centers committed to limiting customer flows and meeting extremely strict safety requirements, that is, they committed to allowing small group skiing only to pre-registered customers wearing masks, gloves that adhere within 3-5 meters from each other and other requirements.

According to the ministry, the conditions for the relaxation of the quarantine will depend on the epidemiological situation in the country.
