The investigation began after the broadcast on Facebook.

SFVS launched a study on natural mineral water as a cure for COVID-19 in the last days of last year, when V. Uspaskich began offering water on the social network Facebook, which not only protects against this disease, but also cure already sick. . Justice Minister Evelina Dobrovolska was later quick to warn about the questionable information released by the politician, especially when Lithuania is one of the countries most affected by the coronavirus.

Karolina Štelmokaitė, a member of the Kėdainiai district council, representative of the Union of Peasants and Greens, and working for the EP, discovered that some people had already received bottles of Upas water from V. Uspaskich. This water is drawn from a well in Rokiškis, and is produced by UAB Lamikara, registered there. The email policy for this company was called “sales department.”

The noise was also caused by the fact that among the people who could be asked for water were not only representatives of the Labor Party (DP) founded by V. Uspaskich, but also members of various city councils and districts, including the parliamentarian Ieva Kačinskaitė-Urbonienė. the next day he refused to distribute water.

Also, the price of the water was impressive: 1.5 euros for a half-liter bottle, although in some Rokiškis stores you can buy it for 0.36 euros. According to the health plan proposed by the “employee”, 24 bottles must be purchased and taken first every other day, then daily. He advised those who were already sick to drink water every day to avoid hospitalization.

Nerijus Malinauskas, the head of Lamikara, was then in the portal. 15 minutes He claimed to have nothing to do with this story: “We are a producer of natural mineral water. Everything. At this point, it is our responsibility, all information in that place ends.

Our natural mineral water has a unique composition, it is classified as a water with strong mineralization. The medium has potassium, magnesium. Potassium is very high. But we are talking about minerals. Everything else … I know what you’re doing, but ask the person who blew it a question. “

By the way, 90 percent. Lamikara shares are owned by the Edvervita company registered in Kėdainiai, and its shareholders are the children of V. Uspaskich from his first marriage, Julija and Eduardas.

Lawyer: “Even water advertising can face penalties”

As SFVS reported 15 minutes, the company has already provided the relevant evidence and denied having any relationship with the words of V. Uspaskich on the properties of the produced water: “The inspectors verified to what extent the company is involved in the prohibited advertising of water in medicinal networks. The production process and the water preparation conditions of UAB Lamikara were evaluated, the production equipment, the documentation of the production process, etc. were visually evaluated. The owner of the company reported in writing that he was unaware of the water production technology indicated in the V. Uspaskich social network ”.

The Authority stated that it had not established the facts that the company itself had taken any action on its own initiative to promote that the water produced had medicinal or prophylactic properties.

At the same time, the SFVS notes that the unauthorized distribution of food by individuals is considered illegal and may carry administrative liability. Consumers are cautioned not to trust dealers offering products of unknown origin. Advertising must always be critically evaluated, otherwise consumers may be misled or risk losing money or even damaging their health.

“Only by buying food from physical and online merchants officially registered and legally operating in the country, consumers can be absolutely sure that they are working legally and are constantly supervised and controlled, and understand their responsibility for the safety and quality of the products offered “.

The Authority recalls that there is no scientific evidence that water or other foods have essential therapeutic properties and are used for the prophylaxis and treatment of COVID-19. The legal acts of the European Union and Lithuania strictly prohibit the attribution of preventive or curative properties of human diseases to food. The main and most effective preventive measure for COVID-19 are vaccines.

According to Vytautas Mizaras, a professor at Vilnius University and a lawyer, “even to advertise water, such an innocent and necessary product for everyone, there may be penalties.” By law, advertising must be decent and fair. Advertising is prohibited if it abuses, among other things, prejudice, people’s trust, lack of experience or knowledge, if it is misleading.

It is not only the SFVS that has launched an investigation into the advertising of water. The Health Ministry also indicated that it had instructed the State Agency for Drug Control to examine the application.

It is interesting that V. Uspaskich did not speak more about bottled mineral water, but about another structured, structured and improved according to the technology that he has invented and perfected by specialists. So-called structured water has not been scientifically confirmed to have significant positive changes in health.
