Some 40 information booths have been produced by order of the Vilnius City Municipality Department of Energy, which are currently being set up in the courtyards of residential buildings near the communal waste container sites. At the stands, Vilnius residents will find all the information on bulky waste drop-off points and other requirements for household waste management. Booths are built at public container sites where waste management violations are most frequently reported.
“The cleanliness of the urban environment is determined not only by the waste management infrastructure and the quality of the services provided, but also by the behavior of the waste owners. They are responsible for the correct management of their waste. Unfortunately, especially during the quarantine and Christmas season, there is a noticeable increase in illegally discarded items in the yards of apartment buildings. It is evident that part of the population is ignorant or unaware of the waste management requirements. Furthermore, through illegal actions, they charge the costs of personal waste management to all residents who use the common container site, ”says Valdas Benkunskas, deputy mayor in charge of waste management in Vilnius.
Remember that people who do not classify waste or do not classify it properly increase the amount of mixed waste in landfills, as well as their costs for managing mixed waste.
According to V. Benkunskas, the objective of the installation of information stands is to inform the population about the requirements and possibilities of municipal waste management and to warn about the sanctions applied to offenders of waste management.
The city elders can set up information stands at their own discretion, as can Naujamiestis; At the initiative of the elder, 26 of these stands have already been installed at the underground and semi-underground household waste container collection sites in this district.
According to Justina Prunskienė, Director of the Vilnius Waste System Administrator (VASA), large waste owners (old furniture, repair and construction waste, household appliances and plumbing, car tires and other large obsolete items) should be taken to sites special or requested by a moving service. by contacting the waste haulers.
“Since January 11. We resumed the provision of the free individual bulky waste disposal service to the population, which has been temporarily suspended during the quarantine. However, we note that to ensure health safety, service providers do not they may enter residential and other facilities during quarantine. At the agreed time, when the service provider contacts the resident who ordered the waste collection, the resident must deliver their waste before the arrival of the vehicle, “he says. J. Prunskienė.
The director of VASA points out that bulky waste should not be left in patios or near waste containers. Carriers will only remove waste from those residents who will request an individual service and deliver the waste to the vehicle. Vilnius residents can request an individual bulky waste disposal service by placing their orders on the VASA self-service website.
Residents can also deliver bulky waste themselves at the Vilnius County Waste Management Center sites.
