Matulas: a bent stick with vaccination scandals

In the radio newscast “Question of the day”, the parliamentarian emphasized that the escalation of situations in which the approved vaccination procedure was possibly violated is a folding stick.

“It just came to our attention then. In fact, perhaps there are three cases that raise some doubts: Panevėžys, when perhaps someone got vaccinated without queuing, then Šilalė, where potential doctors did not resist pressure from the head of the organization, the owner and the Žalgiris Hospital, which I think is completely unfounded or almost unfounded. “Because I had to explain to the heads of at least two institutions, I think things are a bit inflated,” said A. Matulas on Monday.

We remind you that at the Žalgiris Clinic of the Vilnius University Hospital (VU) last week, several professors from the VU Institute of Dentistry, who currently do not have an employment contract with this medical institution, were vaccinated against COVID-19 .

On Friday, Šilalė Deputy Mayor Tadas Bartkus shared on social media the news that UAB Ambulansas executives and their relatives who came from Vilnius could be vaccinated against the coronavirus in Šilalė. The head of the group of real estate companies (Inmobiliaria) Transmeda also beat the doctors.

Violations of the vaccination schedule could also have been committed at Panevėžys hospital.

“Let’s see: Žalgiris Hospital has vaccinated the long-time founder of the institute and the hospital professor, a lonely man with many extraneous risk factors who comes and consults the students, which is obviously a morally beautiful gesture. The whole rest of the staff vaccinated at the institute, I saw that it is a long-standing practice that since February institute personnel have been hired to train students and fired again in the spring to save money because, I was informed, students did not see a human mouth for years. I think here is a bent stick, “commented the president of the Health Committee.

He stressed the need to delve into a specific case before criticizing.

“I tried to delve into the case of Žalgiris and I don’t really see any violations. Even more so since the second vaccination was repeated from February 1. Institute staff, scientists come to read lectures. The fact that from February 1. Safe researchers, not sick, would come to work with the students, because for them a new scientific cycle begins, logically it seems that it is completely fine, “he said.

The best weapon is advertising.

The MP did not justify the case of Šilalė. In his opinion, very wrong actions were taken. However, according to A. Matul, the disclosure of violations is the greatest punishment.

“There is a lot of misconduct in Šilalė, but I imagine the local doctors just couldn’t resist the possible pressure from the owner to add them to the list. There is definitely wrong action here. But, in my opinion, the biggest punishment is publicity, advertising does much more than researching some services, ”explained A. Matulas.

According to him, it is not worth investigating violations only by investigation and lessons will be drawn from the cases that have been heard in public space and this will not happen again.

Trust is not broken, but the situation must be monitored

A. Matulas disagreed with Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonyte, who stated that in the case of the aforementioned scandals, trust has been broken.

“It just came to our attention then. Definitely, that is not the case to break the confidence of the doctors. It is necessary to analyze each case. (..)

Those things need to be monitored. The Right Ministry (Ministry of Health – past aut.) decision that it is necessary to delegate many things to the municipalities to monitor, decentralize this process from above, no one is going to really control the ministry, but those cases, especially Šilalė, are ugly for me, they do not overshadow all efforts, medical work , the work of the ministry,.

Although the president of the Health Affairs Commission did not rule out that situations related to violations of the vaccination procedure could be repeated, A. Matulas emphasized that it would not yet be necessary to wreck one’s hands, since the scandals mark only isolated cases.

“There are no mass or political phenomena who, as in Poland, have tried to circumvent the order and get vaccinated en masse. These are certainly isolated cases.

So far, those cases are in public view. I think those who depend on ensuring vaccine transparency now see it, hear it. I really ask you not to underestimate all the work and start cutting your head off.
We must prevent such violations. It has not been established that someone has bribed or bought that vaccine for those things, I mean it very seriously, ”said A. Matulas.
