The decision to initiate an official inspection for possible misconduct was made after evaluating suggestions from SAM experts following written explanations received by the head of the NVSC regarding unaccounted deaths related to coronavirus.

NVSC Director R. Petraitis announced during a news conference on Monday that he would not resign because he believes the criticism against him is unfounded.

On Friday, Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys called on R. Petraitis to resign, saying that if the head of the NVSC does not agree to do so, he will “look for another way” and take “more bureaucratic action.”
