I write this comment, firstly to apologize and secondly, so as not to give in to the impulse of panic in search of the straw of survival. The fact that I didn’t even think, went and got vaccinated after receiving the invitation doesn’t give me a drop of peace. On the contrary, if you could go back in time and invite vaccine distributors to find those who need the vaccine most.

I received an invitation to get vaccinated from the Ambulance chief, who said that the company received more vaccinations than people who wanted to be vaccinated; some people were in self-isolation, others refused vaccines. To avoid throwing away vaccines, the manager looked for people who wanted to get vaccinated. According to the manager, the company received a total of 21 vaccines, but the company’s employees used less than half. The manager then looked for an urgent way to use them. The vaccinated list was given to the people in charge of the hospital and I was invited to get vaccinated after approval.

Surviving through our recklessness, I can’t stop believing that all together, contributing what we can and, sometimes, learning from painful mistakes, we can do a lot. I hope that both my financial support and charitable arts initiatives contribute to the fight against the virus and provide at least a brief reassurance to those who go to the battlefield on a daily basis. Last fall, we managed to collect more than 30 paintings by prominent Lithuanian artists, which were given to doctors who fought COVID-19.

I want to warn people not to repeat my mistake. Don’t be too quick to rejoice and accept vaccination offers if you don’t have them from your GP.

At the same time, I want to appeal to those who plan and organize the vaccination process to send a clear message to all the people who are eagerly awaiting the vaccine, if they need to be interested in their own treatment facilities or if they will be notified in advance when they will be invited to get vaccinated. This would avoid further misunderstandings.

Today, we are all confused, tired, anxiously waiting for improvements and safety for our health. In such a situation, it is not always possible to maintain common sense. When I received the offer to vaccinate, I was sure that I was not committing a crime. I sincerely apologize to anyone who needs vaccinations much more than me … I understand it was a mistake. This lesson is extremely painful for me.

I express great respect and gratitude to those who fight for human life today, to those who go to fight disease every day and take risks. On the eve of January 13, those anti-fight associations are for everyone, but for me they are especially striking: 30 years ago I worked in an ambulance and organized additional ambulances to rescue the wounded, and also participated in the establishment of a hospital temporary for injured Seimas defenders. I know very well what it means to be focused and how strong it can be.
