COVID-19 situation in Kaunas County: where are the highest morbidity rates?

As of June 4, the Kaunas Department of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC) in Kaunas County had registered 142 cases of COVID-19 disease. Among the patients, 21 health workers were identified, 15 of whom have already recovered.

Outbreaks of COVID-19 have been reported in two Kaunas hospitals. Eight patients were registered from May 5 to 8 and 5 cases of another outbreak from May 17 to 26 in these outbreaks occurred in 7 patients and 6 health workers. Fortunately, the outbreaks did not spread and were controlled in a timely manner.

The last COVID-19 case was registered in the county on May 26.

According to Kristina Rudžinskaitė, Advisor to the Infectious Disease Management Division of the Kaunas Department of NVSC, the epidemiological diagnosis of COVID-19 cases revealed that 67 patients (47%) were infected outside of Lithuania, 65 patients (45%) they did not leave Lithuania, but interacted with returnees or sick people. 31 cases were associated with 7 outbreaks (22%). The source of infection could not be identified in 10 patients. A total of 1,144 people in close contact had to be isolated for up to 14 days from the date of the last contact.
