Today, an hour ago, Valdas Dambrauskas he was officially introduced as the new coach of the Ludogorec club in Razgrad. The multiple Bulgarian champions, who have won the Bulgarian championship for 9 years in a row and are currently leading it, introduced their coach, who celebrated his 44th birthday yesterday in the country’s capital Sofia, where many local journalists met the Lithuanian.
However, the first speaker was Georgi Karamandzhukov, Ludogorec’s sports director, who opened the press conference.
“At the end of October, the club’s board decided to say goodbye to coach Pavel Vrba. Since then, we have received CVs from many candidates, which we have reviewed and spoken to with more than one coach. Out of all the candidates, we chose Valdas Dambrauskas to become Ludogorec’s new coach, ”said G. Karamandzhukov, who also revealed that he had signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Lithuania. We remind you that V. Dambrauskas will earn about 20 thousand euros per month.
“If Valdas is here at the moment, then we have made a decision and we believe in him. If we did not wait for the opportunity from Valdas, he would not be here. With Valdas, we expect a successful game and results,” added Ludogorec’s Sporting Director.
When the microphone was handed over to V. Dambrauskas, the Lithuanian initially congratulated everyone on the last holiday: “I am very happy to see you all here. First of all, I would like to congratulate you on the New Year, wish you health and happiness and stay safe and healthy, because we have an extraordinary situation in the world, which I hope will be resolved soon. “
Later, V. Dambrauskas introduced himself: “I am Valdas Dambrauskas, I am very proud to be here and to become Ludogorec’s coach. I will have all the coaching staff with me, to whom I invited Lithuanian Marius Skinderis. Marius is a great specialist in standard situations and will focus on that. Stanislav Genčev, who coached the team temporarily, will also remain on the coaching staff. Fran Oleko, Ian Collas, Rafael Ferreira will also work on the coaching staff. Zdravko Zdravkov will continue to work as goalkeeping coach and Valentinas Velikovas will head the medical department.
I am very aware of the goals that Ludogorec sets for each year, but we don’t just want to achieve them: to become Bulgarian champions and play in Europe, we also want to achieve it by playing beautiful and offensive football. All this will be passed on to the teams from the first training session in Turkey ”, V. Dambrauskas gave the first sentences to the journalists.
At that time, a series of questions flew from local journalists to the Lithuanian side, to which V. Dambrauskas tried to answer as broadly and clearly as possible.
– Aren’t you afraid of the challenges that await you at Club Ludogorec? The tenth title is very important for the club and that’s why you will definitely have a lot of pressure, – they asked V. Dambrauskas.
– I fully understand the challenges that lie ahead. Every soldier wants to become a general and I am not afraid of those challenges, I believe in myself and I believe that I can give the team something new and raise its level. The tenth consecutive title will be and is a very important goal. I don’t know who can scare a coach when he works in a club. When you work in a club like this, it is natural to have pressure from the outside, but the manager will always put more pressure on you from the inside, so I don’t even want to mention something like fear. For a coach, pressure is a normal part of life and the more pressure you receive, the higher level you can achieve. This is the privilege of our work. When I play in very important games, I always feel pressure, and all my life I have tried to find a way to stay calm, make logical decisions and follow my tactics under a lot of pressure. I will do the same here.
– Do you already know the players and the team’s coaching staff?
– Not all players have come from their homeland or on vacation yet. We will have a training camp in Turkey, there I will try to get to know each player as well as possible and get to know the team.
– Do you know how Ludogorec’s club plays and did you analyze the team’s game when you found out that you would be a team coach?
– I have been studying the Ludogorec club and its players intensively for the last two or three weeks, but I have been watching their match since 2017, when I played against Ludogorec with Vilnius Žalgiris. I saw Ludogorec’s match not only in Europe, but also in the Bulgarian championship. Since then (2017, – auth note) There are still 5-6 players left in the team, so I can say that I know the team’s style of play well and am familiar with the team.
– Do you come with your own style of play or do you leave the current style of Ludogorec?
– Ludogorec’s style is dictated by the results. Once you’ve won 9 titles in a row, you’ll want to play dominant football, beat goals, and win. As a coach, my style is very similar: playing offensive football and dominating the field, controlling the ball. Therefore, I will not radically change Ludogorec’s style of play and leave what is the DNA of the club, but as a coach, I want to add some details of the game and improve the overall game of the club.
– What goals will you set for yourself in Bulgaria?
– I think my goals and Ludogorec’s are the same. As a coach, I am very ambitious. I want to win titles, a championship and play in Europe. The club itself loves him very much, that is why our goals coincide and I am sure that together with this club we can achieve them.
– What do you know about the Bulgarian Championship? Have you seen the game of other Bulgarian teams?
– The Bulgarian Championship is good and competitive, but it may not get as much recognition as it deserves. Still, I mainly watched Ludogorec’s match, but I have also watched Sofia CSKA’s match in Europe. During the last 2-3 weeks I have watched the game of almost every club in the Bulgarian League, but I still cannot call myself an expert on the Bulgarian Championship, but I want to emphasize that I am a coach of Ludogorec and for me the most important thing is the my team’s game and how to improve it. match your game with them.
– Are you going to invite players you have already worked with to the club?
– It does not depend on me, it depends on the club as a whole. We have to see what the club needs and what positions we need. Ludogorec has a great team of scouts and we will all decide together which players we need. For me, it doesn’t really matter where those players come from, it’s important that they reinforce the position they want.
– He has been known in his previous clubs for his detail and analysis. Will you do the same at Ludogorec Club?
– I am a detailed coach, but the most important thing for me is to find a way to reach the hearts and minds of the players. I built my reputation by having a good relationship with the players. When such a relationship exists, only then can players fulfill the wishes and tactical details of the coach. It is very important to me that there is a positive atmosphere within the team and that I will strive to create. I don’t think that going to Ludogorec will change my coach’s style, he will stay and already during the game you will see if Ludogorec’s game with me has changed.
– Did you find players on the team that you could stand out for your level?
– I am satisfied with the players available in the team, but I do not want to name the ones that impress me the most, because it would be a lack of tact. The team has great potential and I want to reach it. In football it is perfectly normal for the sporting form of the players to fluctuate, and even the best footballers in the world do not avoid it, but the most important thing is the personality of the players. Ludogorec’s players have it, so I’ll try to help them achieve their best game and convey what I want from them on the field.
During the press conference, V. Dambrauskas and the club’s sports director mentioned the camp in Turkey. The Lithuanian will go to the Turkish resort town of Belek next week with the entire team, where he will play up to five friendly matches. It is his year in which V. Dambrauskas will strive to get to know the team even better and test his details in team play.
In Turkey, Ludogorec will face strong and well-known European clubs: Serbian Bačka Topola (January 20), Donetsk Šakhtar (January 23), Dynamo Kiev (January 30), Maribor of Slovenia. (January 31) and Zenit of Saint Petersburg (February 4).
After this training camp, V. Dambraukas and Ludogorec will return to Razgrad, they will train there for more than a week, and on January 13 they will play the first game of the Bulgarian championship against the club FC Etar.
