“As far as we know, the first shipments of the modern vaccine should reach all EU countries next week and will be distributed pro rata principle (by population) ”, the Representation of the European Commission in Lithuania informed the BNS on Thursday.
According to the EC Representation, shipments are delivered on the basis of specific agreements between the Member States and the manufacturer, and the EC does not participate in these agreements, so the Lithuanian authorities must provide exact figures.
The Ministry of Health (SAM), for its part, has announced that the details of the arrival of the vaccine are currently being harmonized and more information will be provided with final approval.
The EC on Wednesday authorized the distribution of the Modernos vaccine in the European Union.
The modern vaccine is the second approved in the European Union. At the end of December, the green light was lit to start vaccination with a preparation developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.
The Moderna vaccine should be stored at -20 ° C, at a much lower temperature than the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which requires a temperature of -70 ° C. For this reason, the logistics of the Moderna vaccine are easier.
The European Commission has already ordered the Moderna vaccine to supply to EU members.
