Kaunas “Žalgiris” decided not to risk his players and not try to throw them into the 3×3 basketball competition, which should surprise Palanga this summer.

“We spoke to Paulius Motiejūnas (President of Žalgiris) in the fall, he showed great interest, but it happened just as it happened: there are more important things for him.” But it is a matter of time before the Euroleague clubs have 3 against 3 teams. As soon as Real Madrid or any other team is established, the avalanche will move, “said Rolandas Skaisgirys, the main organizer of the tournament, during the joint presentation of the 3×3 basketball association and the Lithuanian Basketball League project ( LKL) in Vilnius at the LKL office.

Žalgiris has signed great contracts. In addition, players consult with agents. We do not want to let our players go, so there are problems, although we will assure the tournament players, – said LKL President Remigijus Milašius. – Second, the teams must like it. Perhaps they (“Žalgiris”) will regret it later. “

Participants

Twelve teams will participate in the Hoptrans 3×3 tournament: nine LKL clubs and three 3×3 basketball teams: Šakiai Gulbelė-Vytis, the Kaunas district team and the legendary LKL team. The most famous players of the tournament, the brothers Darjušas and Kšištofas Lavrinovičiai, should also play in it.

The organizers of the tournament have made it a secret that it is the basketball players who will represent the LKL clubs, although the best will probably not be.

If Žalgiris refuses to participate in the tournament, Lithuanian national team coach Darius Maskoliūnas will simultaneously organize a training camp in Palanga in July, to which fifteen candidates for the national team will be invited.

“I would not like to go to the last names, because we will present both the teams and the players separately. Some clubs are still negotiating contracts,” said R.Skaisgirys.

Dates and format

The tournament will take place in four stages on weekends.

The first stage is from July 3 to 4, the second stage from July 10 to 11, the third stage from July 16 to 17 and the final stage from July 24 to 25.

The tournament will be held in the format proposed by FIBA. Clubs will have the opportunity to register six players for the Hoptrans 3×3 tournament, four of them will be able to participate in one stage.

Before the first stage, the twelve teams will be divided into three groups of 4 per lot. On the first day of the tournament, each team will play two matches, and on the second day there will be quarterfinals, semifinals and final (3rd place will not be played).

In the second stage, the teams will again be divided into groups according to their positions and the same system will accumulate points again.

In the third stage, they will also fight for points.

Eight teams will advance to the final, which will determine the final places in the playoffs during the last two days of the tournament.

Favorites

R.Skaisgirys had previously stated that the best 3×3 basketball team Šakiai “Gulbelė-Vytis” would also defeat Kaunas “Žalgiris”.

A former world champion of the basketball trio with Rolandas Matulis and Erik Kučiauskas two decades ago, he still believes that the Šakiai team will be the favorite due to the experience of the basketball trio.

R.Skaisgirys joked that the intensity of “3×3” is such that even a technical foul is never available.

Swan is currently a favorite. But others can re-train very quickly, especially if they’ve mastered the spaces of a different basketball. Much is determined by the concept of space. Great basketball has a pass throughout the field, here it is different. Also, the evaluation is different. Although Skučas should like it ”, R.Skaisgirys mentioned LKL Žygimantas Skučas’s pestle.

R. Skaisgirys said he would be happy if any LKL team beat the Šakiai team, but it would not be easy to beat the basketball players who aspire to enter the Olympic trio.

“I don’t know if the whole system can be felt in a month, but it won’t be easy for LKL clubs.”

Basketball is male, there is no crying there ever. But it can be more impressive, “said R. Skaisgirys, who promised viewers and put them in the basket.

Terms

Tournament budget: more than 200 thousand. Euros Most of it is for the construction of an outdoor arena. It will be in the central place of Palanga next to the sources.

The arena will have 600 seats for spectators, the arena will be covered by a roof and the technical possibilities will allow the tournament to be decorated with performances by musicians. There will also be a training camp nearby.

“It should be convenient for both players and fans,” hoped R. Skaisgirys. “I am very happy that this money stays in Lithuania: the sand builders, basketball players and musicians will also earn it.”

Security

According to R. Milašius, all players will be insured under past or future contracts.

Although the tournament organizers themselves alluded to the risk of injury when returning to professional sports after a pandemic by taking advantage of injuries from League A soccer games, they believe that the most important thing is to do homework.

“You know, a famous player went to shoot penalties before the game and took Achilles. No one is immune to that. Our concern is a professional place and the same surface. And to provide insurance, “said R. Skaisgirys.

So far, the event is organized according to current government instructions, but organizers believe the quarantine will end in July and 600 spectators will be able to watch the game in the stands.

What if the scenario were bad and the pandemic returned? “There is no pandemic insurance, but there are several options, it is even possible to cancel the tournament,” said R. Skagirys.
