The disease progressed rapidly and the doctor’s life disappeared in less than 3 weeks.

The doctor was 66 years old

The life of V. Virbickas, a doctor at Pasvalys Hospital, was extinguished last night in the intensive care unit of the Republican Hospital of Panevėžys. The doctor was 66 years old.

Medical colleagues say that as the number of medical deaths increases, tensions between doctors increase.

Before the pandemic, V. Virbickas headed the Department of Childhood Diseases at Pasvalys Hospital.

“When the COVID-19 infection was suspended due to high morbidity, the COVID-19 unit was installed on the premises of that unit, and the doctor agreed to direct that unit in good faith upon request. The man took the oath of Hippocrates and worked until December 9. After that, he had to isolate himself because his wife fell ill, “recalled Rolandas Rastauskas, chief physician at Pasvalys Hospital.

V. Virbickas was diagnosed with COVID-19 a week later. The disease progressed rapidly. The doctor found himself in the intensive care unit of Panevėžys Hospital, where his life was extinguished.

V. Virbickas’s wife, also a doctor, recovered from the infection.

The family will receive compensation

The Deputy Minister of Health says that the medical family will receive compensation for the loss, this is already provided for by law and the fight does not necessarily have to be included in the list of occupational diseases, as urged by some doctors and politicians.

“From what we have analyzed the practice of the countries of the European Union, we still do not see any country that has joined the list of occupational diseases. They were all on the list of communicable diseases, ”explained Živilė Simonaitytity, Deputy Minister of Health.

One tenth of doctors are sick

A total of one-tenth of the doctors are ill at Pasvalys Hospital.

“The disease affected 36 employees. Now one [COVID-19] We no longer have enough wards, currently 30 patients, ”said R. Rastauskas.

The only worker left without COVID-19 infection remained in the reception department.

The hospital director is only glad that almost all the doctors in the Admissions Department have recovered and are back to work.

“The most valuable doctor is a sick doctor, because he has the lowest risk of getting sick,” explained R. Rastauskas.
