The Health Ministry reported last week that 804 unaccounted deaths related to the coronavirus were detected during the digitization of NVSC operations.

Last Tuesday, A. Dulkys discussed the situation with R. Petraitis, but said that he was not convinced by the answers from the head of the NVSC, so he asked to present them in writing.

At the time, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė reacted more harshly: she said that the NVSC leadership must take responsibility.

The head of NVSC, R. Petraitis, announced in a press conference held on Sunday that there are a significantly higher number of unaccounted deaths: 1,171, but assured that the situation is not due to the fault of his institution, but to the lack of of timely information provided by hospitals.

The Statistics Department said Monday that a total of 1,950 people have died from coronavirus. However, the department cautioned that death statistics are currently being reviewed and the figures provided are taken from death certificates.

The number of deaths from other causes is not yet provided, these figures are also recalculated.
