The government extended control of the movement between municipalities on Sunday until January 31.

“The current figures show that withdrawing would be criminal in a sense, because the responsibility is enormous, the numbers are growing, the situation is not really improving, so we can say that everything is done,” the Interior Minister said at the meeting, Agnė Bilotaitė.

“The police department and the social partners are ready,” he added.

The restriction was extended subject to a review of the decision after two weeks, on January 17, in light of the latest data and trends in morbidity and mortality from coronavirus infection in the country.

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė emphasized that the vaccination situation would be especially important to review the restrictions.

“We have proposals yesterday to test strategies that could allow to change at least some of the quarantine restrictions when we are ready, we could change the restrictions for certain activities or in certain institutions. Of course, vaccination is essential, ”he said.

According to Health Minister Arūnas Dulkis, vaccination against the coronavirus should be regularized in January, so the situation is expected to improve and restrictions can be reviewed.

“We are waiting for the final approvals today, if so, it means that next week we will have an additional shipment of vaccines, the vaccination process will resume next week. We know that it should be regular enough from January, albeit in small amounts, which means that in January we have the opportunity to strengthen our front line, at least the medical community, the nursing homes, “said A. Dulkys in the meeting.

“By focusing on January, there are many opportunities to see positive signals, and then reconsider again in mid-January (restrictions – BNS),” he added.

According to A. Dulkis, in January and February, 20 thousand tons should be delivered to Lithuania every one or two weeks. vaccinations

According to the government chancellery, the number of cases of coronavirus infection decreased during the holiday week, but so did the volume of tests, and the proportion of positive tests from all tests performed increased slightly.

“The situation is definitely not improving if we exclude preventive tests where they are performed asymptomatically and look only at the moving points, we see that the percentage of positive tests has even increased. We do not have a drastic increase, but it is really too early to talk about it, ”said Aistis Šimaitis, Project Manager of the Project Management Group of the Government Chancellery.

According to him, there is also a slight decrease in the number of patients with mild form in hospitals, but an increase in the number of patients in resuscitation and an increase in deaths.

To control the spread of the coronavirus, the movement of people between municipalities was restricted without serious reason in mid-December, it was in effect until Sunday 9:00 p.m.

During the weekend before Christmas, as well as during the Christmas and New Year periods, several tens of thousands of cars rolled over during the check.
