Zigmant sees donation very simply, he believes that it does not matter who receives donated blood: neither gender nor race matters to a man. If only health allows, the man does not hesitate and travels to the National Blood Center:

“I do it every two months and I try to donate. Clearly, I look at how I feel, and I leave when those two months go by. I have a gadget that reminds me well from time to time, otherwise I try not to throw away for a long time, the media reports that there is a lack of blood, so why not, if health allows, I see no problem in being a donor.

Encouraged by the example of dad

A man who has donated blood 80 times believes that the example of his father, whom he saw as a child, may have led him to become a donor:

“Even in Soviet times, dad donated blood more or less regularly, I don’t know, maybe he has some influence, it’s hard to say, but maybe somewhere in the subconscious (laughs)

Now an adult, Zigmantas travels with his 13-year-old son on the road to donate blood whenever the opportunity arises, thus setting an example of doing good deeds.

“For my 13-year-old son, before he was quarantined, when there was an opportunity, we did it together, as they say, you have to set an example.

I didn’t go with my dad, so much so that he told me he was going to donate blood because at that time he was not very tolerant of having a child or something like that. But now it is really a very warm welcome and the staff of that center and kindly accompany and speak, the atmosphere is simply positive, ”says Zigmantas, hoping that in the future her son will bravely donate blood.

Blood center staff recognize the street

The man jokes that more than one generation of nurses has changed in the blood center where he sacrifices himself, but he still comes. Employees also recognize the regular donor on the street and greet him:

“It just came to our attention then. Nurses have passed away more than once (laughs) And so it happens on the street with the consent of the immediate acquaintance.

Somehow it doesn’t get very personal, but they pamper you, ask how you’re doing, etc. “

A man who volunteered in the military since 1999 has not stopped his donation even during quarantine. Zigmant says that he tries to be responsible and follows all the recommendations, but does not feel the fear of contracting the virus.

“There should always be a sense of caution, and it remains. We have to be vigilant and follow the rules, and I think if everyone followed them, the numbers would be very different these days.

I try to be responsible, civic and perhaps that is why there is no such fear, because there are still specialists who sit at the top, they know how to avoid those risks, it would be good to follow them and all of them ”, he considers.

Myths are not intimidating

When asked if the various myths surrounding donation didn’t deter him, Zigmant assured him that it certainly didn’t. One man even learned from a scientific article that his habit of donating blood can even help his health:

“I don’t believe in the myth that a vein will break with a donation. I read that vein damage can only be very frequent from your testing, it is here for drug addicts, but if there is from time to time, but not very often, it is nothing of the kind.

After all, some people almost have to take medicine almost every day, but they also survive and those veins get hurt too, but not so tragically.

I read a series of scientific articles a long time ago that for those who donate blood regularly, in the event of an accident, the body is so used to losing blood, it is easier to recover and nothing will happen if you lose more blood than an ordinary person who does not donate blood. This is also a bit motivating. You also want to be prepared for a lot of people. “

A frequent donor also includes those who do not decide to visit the blood center for fear of needles or blood, but the man does not condemn such people, on the contrary, they understand:

“There are people who have a phobia, those in elementary school are afraid of blood, I know those people, that is perhaps because some are simply afraid. Others hide that fear, they don’t want to show that fear. “

Zigmantas himself tries to take care of his health. He gave up bad habits; He quit smoking 14 years ago. Taking care of nutrition is helped by the wife, whom the husband also infected with his example. You have also been donating blood regularly for 2 years:

“The wife is into nutrition, she produces delicious yummy, I still try to choose that diet, for example, I really like pomegranate juice, it improves hemoglobin, and I try to live a healthy life anyway.”
