Čmilytė-Nielsen on NVSC, which provided wrong statistics: it is difficult to assess the capacities of those responsible for this center

“Today we have seen an unprecedented case of laziness. I mean the statistics provided by NVSC. In the morning, we stood still, reading that COVID-19 had claimed up to 130 victims last day. However, a few hours later, the NVSC cleared the information and found that 42 people had died from coronavirus earlier this year, with the remaining 88 victims coming from earlier days. The justification is that after the new management of SAM changed the information procedure, the hospitals provided statistics that they previously did not provide, ”wrote the president of Seimas on Facebook on Friday.

According to V. Čmilytė-Nielsen, “looking at today’s case, it is very difficult to assess the capabilities of the people responsible for this center.”

The head of the Seimas affirms that the irresponsible delivery of public information can affect the whole society, “demoralizing the people whose relatives are currently in hospitals, and some of them – in resuscitation”, so she hopes “that both the NVSC as the people who supervise it problems of this institution “.

The report presented by the NVSC indicates that the center, having received information from medical institutions on deaths from coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and cases in which the dead were infected with COVID-19 but died from other causes, which did not was provided on time according to the Ministry of Health (SAM) will include this data in the statistics.

Last day, 42 people died from COVID-19, and another 88 deaths were reported, which were not submitted on time by medical institutions in accordance with the current SAM-approved procedure, according to the NVSC.

Also on December 31st. Information was received on 19 deaths in which people died from COVID-19 infection, but according to medical estimates, the underlying cause of death is different. Another 58 such cases, which were reported on Friday, are cases in which treatment facilities sent late notifications as required by the current procedure.

The NVSC provides information on a daily basis on those deaths reported by medical institutions that day, regardless of the date of the person’s death. This was constantly emphasized and emphasized when providing information to the public about what the NVSC did on a daily basis, indicating both the age groups of the deceased and the comorbidities they had, and the circumstances of the infections of the individuals identified during the epidemiological diagnosis.

The NVSC indicates that the non-compliance of the deaths was evaluated by the NVSC in the Information System of Cooperation Infrastructure and Electronic Health Services according to the reports and information provided by the NVSC of the medical institutions and contacted the Center for Registries and medical institutions to verify the data.

At the time, Statistics Lithuania announced that the number of deaths from COVID-19 was still being taken from the National Center for Public Health. That number was provided by their systems. In the near future, Statistics Lithuania will switch to deaths from the release of COVID-19 directly from the primary source – e. Systems of health.
