“If someone treated the animal like this, it would probably make all animal lovers happy and there would be a lot of noise,” said Vitalija of Rokiskis.

He got infected with the virus in the hospital.

Having lived with her husband for thirty years, the woman is now home alone. Her husband Gediminas is being treated at the Vilnius Republican University Hospital, where he underwent a long-awaited planned hip surgery.

Gediminas had been taking the strongest painkillers for years, was unable to walk with even two canes, and slept at night for only three hours due to excruciating pain. So, waiting for the virus to peak, the man just couldn’t.

Before entering the operating room, Gediminas underwent a test for Covid-19 and only because it was negative was the operation performed. Unfortunately, the man could not avoid the virus: he got infected in the hospital.

Although it was not possible to obtain the necessary medical services in the area where Gediminas lives, the doctors asked him to leave the hospital.

“Certainly, there is not a single case in which a patient has been infected with the coronavirus while receiving other services. No one says the hospital intentionally infected him. However, the responsibility for the total recovery of the patient really falls on the hospital and the administration must create the conditions so that the doctors are not forced to act against their morals ”, says Vitalija.

When the husband of the interlocutor fiercely stood up before being ordered to leave, he was still allowed to remain in the treatment center.

“If my husband were at home, we would all have been infected a long time ago and sent to the hospital, and the man would have been left alone,” reflects Vitalia about his possible fate.

Blaming the previous government

Due to this difficult situation that her family is going through, the woman blames the previous government and the results of its inaction. According to Vitalija, it is reckless for a patient who returns home to infect two or three other people living together.

“Why is it surprising that the number of cases is increasing so fast?”, Vitalija gets angry.

After the club operation, Gediminas has not yet suffered an injury and cannot get out of bed, so a man simply cannot take care of himself and remain in isolation.

Due to Vitalia’s chronic disease that weakens her immunity and a flaccid heart, even the smallest amount of the virus could be fatal to her.

After speaking with representatives of the Public Health Center, the woman learned that after the first quarantine, the authorities did not make any changes that would create quarantine places in the districts.

“It just came to our knowledge then. If the family is financially capable and has another home – it will have, and if not, then we are all seriously ill in the families”, the program interlocutor gets angry.

As of October 16, the quarantine periods were shortened by order of the Ministry of Health. Vitalija also mentions this change as the reason for the spread of the virus.

“Mild patients are discharged for treatment at home. This is not in conflict with the procedures established by the rules approved by the Ministry of Health ”, explains Asta Bagdonavičienė, representative of the University Hospital of the Republic of Vilnius.

To the joy of Vitalija and Gediminas, the surgeon treating the man was able to withstand the pressure of the hospital procedure. The patient will remain in the hospital until the main risks to his health have passed.
