Marius Lasinskas, pharmacist-herbalist, PhD student at the Agriculture Academy of Vytautas Magnus University, vice president of the Žolinčiai Academy and author of the book Children in the world of herbs, spoke about how to turn needles into a useful medicine.
“There is a lot we can do with our amazing Christmas trees and it is very regrettable to see them throw them away. So if you rejoice in it, don’t throw it away. Needles are real medicine and food, if you clean them cleanly, you can use them to improve your health, ”says M. Lasinskas.
Perfect for prevention
The first and simplest recipe is to simply put a few green fir needles in your mouth and chew on them. This will disinfect the entire oral mucosa.
“If you are raw, you can also eat them. You will get the necessary substances, vitamin C. But do not eat them on an empty stomach, as the acidity can start to rise,” he says.
You can also prepare winter tea from all colds. This will require a handful of needles per liter of water.
“Before putting the needles in the thermos, you can crush them. This way you will drink the tea faster. If you do everything simply, then pour the needles into hot water at 80-90 degrees and leave them for 2-3 hours” says M. Lasinskas.
You can drink this tea both prophylactically and for colds. It tastes like lemon tea, and children will especially like it if they taste a little honey beforehand. Also, if you are not a lover of hot tea, the tea will not lose its good qualities even when cold.
Use the needles in the bathroom too
“You can also make a decoction. You can put the needles directly into the pot or do it another way – put the pot in the pot. This is called a double bath – take one pot, add water, then another pot, and a handful of needles per liter of water.
So cook for half an hour over low heat. Then hold the position for another half hour. That way you already have a stronger decoction. Consume a tablespoon or two of this decoction a day, but no more. A tablespoon of decoction is equivalent to a few cups of tea, ”says M. Lasinskas.
You can store the decoction in the refrigerator, but then mix it with hot water before use to keep it cool.
However, this is not the only way to use it.
“You can pour the remains of the decoction into the bath water and lie down for 15 minutes. You can take down, but you can also do it with spikes. It will help the skin to breathe. Especially suitable for people with rheumatic diseases or joint pain, skin problems.
Laugh with laughter, but if she hasn’t finished the whole Christmas tree yet, you can take her with you to the bathroom and lie there after hugging her. There will be a double benefit: you will also get acupuncture like this, ”jokes the herbalist.
Ointment against all diseases.
It is also possible to make an ointment, which, according to the herbalist, will be suitable for all diseases. In a mortar, crush the fir needles, place the resulting mass in a dark container and pour oil (suitable hemp or premium olive oil) to cover.
Pine needles can also be used. However, M. Lasinskas does not recommend grinding needles with electrical devices.
“Cover the container with picks and oils and put it in a warm place. Keep for 2-3 weeks, but don’t forget to shake the dish every day. After two weeks of opening, the house smells like pine or fir. Scrape and preserve the oil. The good qualities of the needles will transfer to the oil, ”says the herbalist.
If you are afraid that the needles will float stored in the radiator, then the herbalist advises drying them before cutting them.
“You can apply this ointment to children under the nose, from runny nose, and you can also apply the nasal mucosa to yourself. It is also suitable for relieving joint pain. Apply it to the joints and put on a warm bandage. Everything what you need to do is rub it well and massage it into the skin. It will also be suitable for skin care, small wounds, hand protection against cracking, “he says.
