An error was detected during the digitization of the Lithuanian National Public Health Center (NVSC). There were no 804 deaths, 324 of them from coronavirus. There was confusion and questions in Lithuania about how and why it happened.

Many countries have higher than usual deaths this year. In some of them discrepancies were found in preliminary calculations and in others in the review of death certificates.

Russia: deaths three times higher than official

On the same day that alarming data emerged in Lithuania, Russia reported that the actual number of deaths related to or caused by COVID-19 in its country was three times higher than officially announced. Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova reported more than 80 percent. the excess deaths this year are related to the coronavirus.
