Earlier on Thursday, a representative of the center said that the discrepancies in the data were due to failures in the electronic health system, but after the Registry Center denied information about failures in electronic health, the representative of the center admitted more late that BNS had made a mistake.
“There was a problem with our system at the time … the data just couldn’t flow into our system due to certain filters they put on us,” an NVSC spokeswoman told BNS.
According to her, the center questioned the reliability of Tuesday’s data, so it was not released on Wednesday, and on Thursday the data for both days were released as one.
A.Vžesniauskaitė admitted it made a mistake when BNS stated on Thursday that the statistical discrepancies were due to the fact that the center received “a large amount of raw data” from e-health, and not due to disruptions in the NVSC system.
“These are definitely not electronic health disorders, they were disorders of our system, some may not have recognized the information or there was a situation in our system where they did not receive the information,” said A. Vžesniauskaitė.
He also claimed that these disturbances were not related to a virus that had spread in the NVSC mail, which temporarily disrupted the centre’s email system. According to cyber security experts, the virus spread to dozens of employees after opening infected zip attachments.
BNS could not be reached with NVSC director Robertas Petraitis on Thursday.
Daiva Bumblytė, Head of Communication at the Records Center, responsible for the operation of the eHealth system, confirmed to BNS that no disturbances were recorded in this system on Wednesday. According to her, only a temporary slowdown of the system was detected, which was quickly eliminated.
The Department of Statistics, which reports the number of new COVID-19 cases, announced on Thursday that due to disruptions in the NVSC system, some of the December 29 cases were carried over to the December 30 report.
Currently, publicly available information from the Department of Statistics on daily COVID-19 cases states that 625 cases of coronavirus were recorded on December 29 and 5668 on December 30.
However, in its daily report, Statistics Lithuania announced that 2,360 new cases of COVID-19 had been identified on December 30.
Paluck urges I. Šimonytė and A. Dulkis to refrain from “hunting witches”
The chairman of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), a member of the Seimas Gintautas Paluckas, asks Prime Minister Ingrid Šimonytė and Minister of Health Arūnas Dulkis to refrain from unfounded criticism, in their opinion, of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC ).
According to G. Paluckas, the accusations made by the ruling representatives before the NVSC about inaccurate Covid-19 statistics are only a cover to find fault with the deterioration of the pandemic management situation.
“NVSC is a key part of the system, helping to control the pandemic, trace contacts. Employees who work here are tired, they work unbearable loads, their number is constantly decreasing. I ask both the Prime Minister and the Minister to refrain from hunting witches , because in this way we can completely destroy the system that has been operating for a long time ”, says G. Paluckas.
The LSDP president says a case of inaccurate statistics should not be exaggerated.
“The time will come, we will be able to count the statistics, and today we have to do what is necessary, not turn around and look for the extremes of the culprit. “NSVC, because they are almost enemies of the state, realizes that” supposedly “hiding” the dead from Covid-19 is a path that leads nowhere, “added G. Paluckas.
According to the LSDP leader, the government should address the NVSC’s problems as soon as possible.
“NVSC employees constantly reported to the Ministry of Health about problems at the institution, about the unbearable workload of employees, about insufficient resources for threat management, but so far nothing has been done,” he says G. Paluckas.
As ELTA announced, NVSC staff have addressed an open letter to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Health and the media regarding criticism of the ruling.
“Constant and unfounded criticism of the institution and its manager interrupts the work of the NVSC, which is already bearing an unbearable burden; it creates public mistrust, making it especially difficult for NVSC employees to work during this difficult period. This too it has a very negative effect on all the employees of the institution, who personally accept this criticism, because they work together with the manager and the decisions are made jointly ”, says the management of the NVSC staff.
