In the summer, it was announced that the state is providing 200 euros in rest benefits to doctors for working in Lithuania during the pandemic. The project ended on December 15, but the speeches have not been silent thus far.
Just before the end of the project, the tourism agencies made an unexpected offer to buy food rations instead of leisure services.
Due to lack of patience, the doctors began to share photos of rations on social networks. First, the photos sent by the doctors were shared by the food critic “Fat Cat”.
Received expired salmon
Doctors interviewed by tv3.lt say that in general the idea of giving food may not be bad, because going to rest has never been.
“Because there was no access in the summer when it was given to them, because the work and everything, then the quarantine started again, it was horrible to use. Who returned, all with kovidais Return. A friend says, look, you can benefit from food. I used it, ”says a doctor who works in Kaunas.
The woman used the service of the Makalius travel agency and ordered a set of food from Karpynė. But after receiving the dose, the doctor says he is disappointed. The batch consisted of two carp, marinated carp fillet, vacuum salmon fillet, marinated duck, smoked salmon fillet, Christmas cake and bread.
First of all, the doctor was surprised by the dosage.
“I don’t know how much that smoked salmon costs, it looks so fancy, I don’t know how much it costs at the store. In my eyes, if I bought everything in the store, God forbid, I would pay 70 euros, definitely not more ”, says the doctor.
Another thing is that the products in the ration had an extremely short shelf life.
“Of course, I made my own choice, nobody valued me and everything, but it was very ugly when you take a portion on the afternoon of the 22nd and the salmon fillet is valid until the 22nd. In practice, the already old product fell apart of the old products, it was not very pleasant ”, admits the doctor.
Other foods, the woman said, were also valid for a short time. Almost all the products indicated that they should be consumed before December 25.

I have canned peas
Another doctor agreed to share photos of the dose received with tv3.lt. He asked the travel agency Travel la Vita for the ration. The doctor indicates to have received a package of herring, canned peas, walnuts and other foods.
“I was overwhelmed by the feeling of shame,” says the doctor about the impressions of seeing the ration on tv3.lt.
Previously, the doctor was promised that meat products would be smoked in the ration.
“The ham was not even in the package, as if a friend had cut a piece. There is no expiration date, ”says the doctor.
Realizing that the amount of the dose was not at all less than the promised 200 euros, the doctor sent a letter to the travel agency. The woman asked the agency to send checks and show how much the lot was purchased for. The agency did not present checks and wrote that such a dose was intended to supplement the festive medical table.
They also told the doctor that the agency staff had contracted COVID-19 after all the trips to the stores and delivered packages to the doctors and was now sick.
When the news portal tv3.lt contacted the travel agency Travel la Vita, it also declined to comment.
Karpynė: The accusations are unfounded
“Karpynė”, who has been criticized after the recording of “Fat Cat”, says that she is satisfied with the doses she has given to doctors and that she has heard many positive comments from doctors.
“We produce, we taste, we prepare, but we did not go to Maxima and we did not buy wine,” says Kristina Viršilienė, director of Karpynė.
Karpynė says that criticism about the surprised content of the dose is unfounded, because when the doctors chose the dose, its composition was indicated.
“Everything included in the package was detailed even with kilograms and grams. There will be so much green salmon, there will be so much smoked salmon, there will be two units, say, cheek carp.
Everything was listed in detail with all grams and there were five packages to choose from. Some got in, say, a Christmas muffin, some got bread, a set of fish. Who chose with roast duck, who chose with marinated duck ”, comments K. Viršilienė.
The director of “Karpynė” also denies that the doctors tried to “dig up” the stale fish. According to her, the doses had to be delivered before the products expired and each case in which the doctors received the expired fish had to be interpreted separately.
“It just came to our knowledge then. Even if you catch a fish from the pond, have you kept it in the fridge for seven, eight or ten days? No, you don’t, you scratch yourself. If you don’t consume it in two or three days, freeze it, do something Fresh fish cannot be stored in the refrigerator for some time.
You can spread it out by marinating it or eventually freezing it if you don’t plan on eating it soon. The fact that something has expired, deadlines or anything else is a complete slander ”, says K. Viršilienė.
K. Viršilienė confirms that the food rations prepared for doctors do not correspond to the amount of 200 euros.
“Firstly, from € 200 VAT is deducted, then what we pay to Makali is deducted according to our agreed percentage and it is quite high. That remaining balance is not € 200. But we did not think of this system If there was such a possibility and it occurred to the state, who is to blame now? “Says the director of Karpynė.
“Karpynė” also sent the composition of their rations.
The initiative is viewed negatively
In general, the medical community has a negative opinion of the state initiative to provide 200 EUR benefits for medical rest. Aldona Baublytė, chairwoman of the board of directors of the Lithuanian Health Workers’ Union (LSADPS), says the initiative is more like a helping circle for companies than for doctors.
“Most of them could not even collect food, because it was difficult to do so in at least some institutions. Both physically and in terms of time. It was not endorsed by a doctor, but by business in principle. It even caused outrage to many, ”says A. Baublytė.
The fact that doctors have been issued products worth less than € 200 is also critical to the LSADPS.
“The entrepreneurs apparently gambled, because in principle some restaurants offered normal packages, but in recent days, it seems that they took them just to take that money. This is definitely not support, ”A. Baublytė shares his thoughts.
“Traveling in Lithuania” did not interfere with market relations
“Travel in Lithuania”, which performed the administrative functions of the “Holidays for doctors” project, says that the institution did not regulate the market relations between suppliers and customers.
“The Holiday Holidays measure was based on the competitive principles of the free market and (medical) consumers could choose attractive services from more than 800 service providers for almost 4 months”, comments TV3.lt in the Holiday Holidays team.
“Keliauk Lietuva” says that the institution negatively evaluates companies that have provided poor quality services to doctors.
“Doctors who did not have a chance to rest were able to independently choose which providers (including catering establishments) they would like to purchase services from and for what amount.
Both the project organizer, the Ministry of Economy and Innovation and the Travel Lithuania team were interested throughout the project in ensuring that doctors receive quality services that meet their expectations, so we would see similar situations negatively.
