On Wednesday, up to 78 deaths from COVID-19 were recorded in Lithuania, with a new case confirmed in 1921. Specialists from the National Center for Public Health point out that this number has not yet existed, however not that all these people died in one day.

“We get information on deaths from medical institutions and then we integrate it into our system. There was the question of whether they all died on December 28, so the answer is definitely no. Among those cases, there were deaths recorded on December 25 and 26, but the medical institutions provided information on those deaths on December 28, when we entered those deaths into our system, ”explained Justina Petravičienė, specialist from the Vilnius Department of NVSC.

On Tuesday, the digitization of NVCS activities 804 missing dead were found. NVSC representative J.Petravičienė stated that this could have happened because due to the heavy workload, the treatment institution did not provide information about the death to the center or it was delayed.

Euromonitor International told Facebook researcher and member of the Council of Health Experts convened by President Vaidotas Zemlys-Balevičius. According to him, this was due to a new but inadequate death registration process, which is not only the fault of the NVSC, but also the Ministry of Health (SAM).
