“Among the new deaths are those that occurred on both December 25 and 26, but the medical institutions provided information about them on December 28. We then entered those deaths into our system,” said NVSC representative Justina Petravičien en in a comment sent to BNS.
According to her, the center always enters death into the system when it receives information from medical institutions.
“This is not related to NVSC work on weekends or holidays. Our specialists also work with them in the usual way: they conduct epidemiological investigations, work with companies, institutions, organizations and implement all other planned functions, ”said a representative of the center.
“Given the current workload of treatment facilities, we appreciate that there may have been a delay in providing information on COVID-19 deaths at treatment facilities,” he added.
Recently, the number of deaths has increased, especially after weekends or holidays.
According to data from the Department of Statistics, the highest number of deaths during the previous day was recorded in Kaunas and Vilnius counties, where the highest mortality was recorded since the start of the pandemic. 347 people died in Kaunas county, 240 in Vilnius.
However, Gitana Letukienė, a representative of the Santara clinics, told BNS that the medical institution sends data on deceased patients to the National Public Health Center “24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
According to her, this is also done on vacation.
Saulius Tvirbutas, a representative from Kaunas Hospital, also told BNS that this information is being transmitted promptly.
“We must provide the National Center for Public Health with information on the deceased patient within 12 hours. As a result, our physicians, while working with a heavy workload, record deaths without delay,” he said.
