This is the highest number of confirmed deaths per day since the start of a pandemic.

“The National Center for Public Health (NVSC) provides information on deaths as soon as it is received from medical facilities. Naturally, hospitals are now very congested, causing certain jobs to get stuck or delayed. There are cases where the NVSC advises that medical institutions report deaths with a delay of several days. This is not the rule, but such cases do occur. The more cases and deaths we record, the more often there are delays.

The fact that we have COVID-19 outbreaks in nursing homes also contributes to the high number of deaths to date. That is why the number of deaths is so important. This is partly related to the outbreaks, ”commented NVSC spokeswoman Justina Petravičienė.

Statistics on Tuesday show that several people died from Covid-19 but were not at risk.

“In today’s statistics, among the record number of deaths, we have 2 people who did not belong to the risk group because of their age. They were people under the age of 60. However, they had comorbidities. A coronavirus infection is dangerous, even when that comorbidity does not pose a health risk. Unfortunately, once infected with Covid-19, they become very dangerous. And as the doctors say, the virus is dangerous for everyone, ”he said.
