“During the festive period, when there is a weekend, people actively gather in certain public places, gather in large numbers, which represents risks. Police Commissioner General Renatas Požėla says the figures speak for themselves: the holiday weekend for the police who restricted their movement was intense.

“As we can see from the figures, nearly 1,000 administrative lawsuits were initiated during the intensified quarantine and more than 500 over the long weekend. The lion’s share consists of lawsuits for meeting in public places or being indoors for more than one family farm, “R. Požėla told reporters.

However, according to R. Požėla, the restrictions managed to reach their own: traffic flows decreased by about 80 percent.

According to the General Commissioner of Police, it is planned to strengthen control in some public places during the New Year period.

“We have realized it and we will pay attention again during the New Year period, it is a gathering of people in public places: parks, beaches. Seeing that the bans prohibit people from going to another municipality, they look for public spaces to rest”, noted R. Požėla.

“I am referring more to the organization of our work. When planning the work, our activities, next Saturday, the day after New Year’s Eve, Sunday, perhaps it is more planned that our officers are physically present in those public places and at least with the help of a speaker to prevent quarantine violations ”, clarified R. Požėla.

Quarantine Changes Discussions – Next Year

According to A. Bilotaitė, the information provided by the Ministry of Health on the spread of Covid-19 does not allow evaluating the impact of a stricter quarantine.
