Former Zalgiris resident in hospital for COVID-19: “I feel like I was crossed by train”

The 49-year-old basketball coach was infected with the coronavirus more than a week ago.

He broke away from the Zadar team he had recently been training for and isolated himself in an apartment in Zadar.

However, body temperature did not drop during the week.

His former teammate in the Croatian national team, Stanko Vrankovic, called the doctors when he called his friend and realized that he could no longer see three words in a row due to a cough.

During Christmas, V.Mršičius was transferred to the hospital.

He himself uploaded a photo of himself lying down with an oxygen mask. V.Mršičius stated that he wanted to warn those who carelessly look at the virus about the threat of COVID-19.

He remains in the hospital, but told the Croatian media that he was feeling better.

“I feel like I’ve been crossed by train. I suffer from high temperatures and a cough, but after 10 days the fight doctors are optimistic, they see signs of the end of the problems, ”said V.Mršičius.

He added on Sunday that he had been texting until now because it was difficult to talk, but he had already answered the phone on Sunday.

“I’m not hot anymore, I cough a little less, but I still can’t speak much, I still have trouble breathing. Tomorrow I will take another photo of my lungs and, if everything goes well, maybe he will let me go home soon, ”expected V.Mršičius.

“We hope there are no complications, but the SARS-CoV-2 virus is unpredictable. At the moment, it is what peace needs the most, “said Davor Predovan, a doctor at Zadar Hospital.

V.Mršičius is probably Kaunas’ first high-level legionnaire “Žalgiris”, who arrived in Lithuania in 1996-1997. season and then helped the team coached by Jonas Kazlauskas win the LKL gold rings.

The 203 cm forward played for many years in the Croatian national team, with which he won three bronze medals, two at the European championships and one at the world championships.

After finishing his basketball career, he became a coach. Under Cedevita’s leadership in Zagreb, D.Mršičius won the Croatian championship three times in 2015-2017.
