M. Levickis, who started painting – about a restless future: uncertainty allowed an old dream to be realized | Names

Martynas remembers 2020 as the most painful for members of the music community. When there are no more live concerts, they have to perform their presentations online.

However, even in such a situation, he found something to enjoy: he learned to use the equipment and invested in better quality cameras. And once the final result is assembled, the material is shipped to the German market. By the way, there are several orders here in Lithuania. However, this is certainly not his core business, he is now trying to spend more time on himself.

“Since the beginning of the first quarantine, I have used my time well for personal development. I painted the staircase, I spent more time growing plants on the terrace. By the way, I grew tomatoes, strawberries and hydrangeas”, says M. Levickis after remembering .

He had been thinking about these activities for a long time; as he says, they were simply missing. Having done everything the way she wanted, she now says she feels happy. Meaning himself not only as a musician. So it’s no wonder that the latest activities brightened Martynas’s heart even more. It turns out that he realized an old dream: to paint.

An unexpectedly born talent is abstract art painting

At school, Martynas wasn’t overly impressed by art. This interest only arose later, while browsing the Internet. It was there that he discovered abstract art, and was fascinated to realize that this period would be the most appropriate to realize an old dream.

“I wanted to paint on canvas for a long time, to see if it would come out well. I also wanted to know if I like it. Therefore, convinced that it is dating, I will continue to do so. Such an idea is not born out of longing or some sad emotion. This is the period that I have left, when I practically do not travel now, I act much less and try to express myself more deeply, ”he reveals.

Now try to show every thought born on the largest canvas possible. And while she thinks it might seem like a hobby to some, especially when Martyn isn’t an artist, she tries to see it as a game. If that doesn’t work, he says it won’t cause tragedy.

“Thinking like this, I allow myself to improvise because I have not finished any science of painting. I let my hand interpret my thought freely. I want painting to be the simplest game with no set goals. We’ll only see what comes out, and if it doesn’t, it’s nothing like that. I do not pose any problem or tragedy. Nobody stands behind his back and appreciates ”, is convinced Martynas.

Fully immersed in the new field, the musician says he does not seek to paint portraits. In his opinion, special arrangements should be made for this. So for now, you will only stick with modern art.

“Of course, you can start painting yourself, but I really know that I couldn’t do that. Well, I wouldn’t even want to. And since my walls were decorated with modern and abstract art, I decided to paint it myself. And it finally happened that one, after the third, well, and the fifth painting appeared ”, M. Levickis is happy.

He intends to send other works to his closest friends. As this period was not entirely easy, not everything was fixed, a funny surprise occurred to him. “When I started painting, I thought it could be a beautiful Christmas campaign. I would give a photo like that to all my family and friends “, – Martynas shares the idea.

Christmas with a friend and a promising spring

And finally, the musician will honestly fulfill the government’s requirement to stay with only one member of the family during the holidays – he accepted Christmas in Vilnius. All his relatives living in or around Šiauliai also received the holidays separately. But Martyn didn’t really stick around, his company was supported by a friend. Still, the accordionist avoids talking about the other half.

“I’m a person who doesn’t like to be very open about our personal relationships, but we’ve been together for a while so we knew the holidays together,” says Levickis.

However, after the festive hubbub, uncertainty waits again: Martynas still doesn’t know how her career will unfold in the spring. He asks: what will happen if this situation lasts not one, but even five years?

“It just came to our notice then. Clearly, you can see that there is control and we are trying to stop everything as much as possible. A vaccine has come out, but recently the news has come out that the virus is mutating. How many times will this happen? How many times will we need the vaccine?

Not surprisingly, this evokes some reflections. Anxiety arises because it is not clear what to do with the profession, ”Martynas fears.

“It is the music industry and culture that are experiencing a great decline. It saddens me a little that people in other professions can do their work from home; life does not change much for them.

Of course, we are all experiencing various psychological things due to this pandemic, but the community of musicians and the entire community of events, the concert industry, I think, are experiencing an incomparable shock when nothing happens at all, ”says Martynas.
