Medical facilities are already compiling lists of doctors who work on the front lines and intend to be vaccinated against Covid-19. President Gitanas Nausėda, meeting with the mayors of the Vilnius region, stated that municipalities and medical institutions are ready to vaccinate doctors working on the front line, but there is a lack of clarity from the government.
The first vaccines against the coronavirus, 10,000 doses, will arrive in Lithuania on the second day of Christmas, and doctors working on the front line will be vaccinated immediately the next day. Under the plan, the first people to get vaccinated against Covid-19 will be people at risk, not just doctors, but also nursing home workers and, a little later, people over 65 and people with chronic diseases:
“For vaccines, I don’t want to be in severe shape.”
“I wouldn’t really vaccinate, don’t screw people. I really won’t vaccinate.”
“I will probably vaccinate why, why, because nothing good makes the situation worse.”
“Really – no, because everything is described, there is no topic here that can tell everything in a second. All the material is for scientists, there are libraries.
“Why let a strange disease enter your body?”
“Let’s wait for all the people to get vaccinated, take the time and look, but I don’t think so.”
“Probably, although we are already fed up with the whole family.”
It is true that Lithuanians will have to wait a long time for mass vaccination, because vaccines will travel to our country in small doses and gradually.
Even today, President Gitanas Nausėda remotely convened the mayors of eight Vilnius regions and after the meeting declared that municipalities are ready to vaccinate doctors, but so far there is a lack of clarity from the central government about the vaccination procedure itself.
“The vaccine will soon arrive in Lithuania and the role of municipalities in vaccinating people will be very important here. In principle, the municipalities are ready, but what is lacking, there is still enough uncertainty on the part of the central government about the exact order of vaccination to avoid riots, ”says President Gitanas Nausėda.
The first batch of Pfizer and Biontech vaccines will arrive in Lithuania on December 26. The next day, December 27, doctors fighting Covid-19 will be vaccinated against the coronavirus on the front line. According to the Chancellor of the Ministry of Health, this year The second batch of the vaccine is due to arrive in Lithuania by the end of the year, which is also small.
“Again, the plan is that we are going to receive the second vaccine, the second batch at the end of this year, it is a plan to vaccinate about 10,000 at once, without leaving a second dose, for the second vaccination. As we now have the delivery schedules approved today, we will systematically receive a certain number of doses every week starting on January 1, ”says Chancellor Jurgita Grebenkovienė.
It turns out that the Covid-19 vaccines will be transported to medical institutions in a similar way to the first shipments of euro banknotes delivered to Lithuania, with beacons and police escort.
According to the mayor of Vilnius, Remigijus Šimašius, the number of vaccines reaching Lithuania is really small, because the medical community is huge: more than 40 thousand doctors. The first vaccines will be administered to doctors at coronavirus support care centers.
“Naturally, the clinical hospitals of Santara and Antakalnis, which are support hospitals, fight the coronavirus in them first, but then we will quickly move to other hospitals, because, God forbid, the virus would spread to other hospitals with no services. scheduled, “says the city of Vilnius. Mayor Remigijus Šimašius.
Some medical institutions have already compiled lists of doctors who will be vaccinated first. The head of the Antakalnis Clinical Hospital, which is in a pandemic, says the facility employs about 1,000 doctors and other staff directly with coronavirus patients.
“There are very clear risk groups that should be vaccinated first: the doctors who work directly with Covid, the admissions department, the resuscitation staff. Those lists are prepared, most importantly, to have vaccinations and a clear order of how it will be done. Real doctors really want to get vaccinated, ”said Narimantas Markevičius, the hospital director.
The mayor of the Ukmergė district, Rolandas Janickas, is concerned that some doctors and nurses are not willing to get vaccinated. The mayor hopes they still have time to change their mind.
“About 60 percent agree, 40 to 30 percent still doubt it. Here, you know, sometimes when you suddenly ask, you answer that you doubt, but after a day maybe everything will change. And When the process starts, everything will fall into place, ”says Rolandas Janickas, Mayor of the Ukmergė district.
And President Gitanas Nausėda assures that, according to the latest survey data, to be released tomorrow, Lithuanians are quite optimistic about Covid-19 vaccines. Until now, according to surveys, around a third of the population did not intend to get vaccinated against Covid-19, they were equally skeptical and answered “I don’t know.”
“Most people see vaccination normally because they are tired of the pandemic, tired of its consequences, psychological health and the economy. We have to do it, I will test the benefits of vaccination to the best of my ability, but I will get vaccinated according to the established procedure, when it’s my turn, ”says G. Nausėda.
The country’s polyclinics are already preparing for vaccination against the coronavirus. The Šeškinė polyclinic conducted a survey and its results show that 70 percent of employees plan to get vaccinated against Covid-19. The patients were also interviewed.
“We interviewed our patients, about 60 percent of the patients would like to receive the vaccine,” says Ingrida Savickienė, deputy director of the Šeškinė Polyclinic.
Lithuania has signed agreements with six pharmaceutical companies, the total number of vaccines is just over 7 million doses.
