3. Chaim Frenkel Leather Factory Workers Synagogue
1907 At the initiative and with the funds of Chaim Frenkel, a two-story brick synagogue was built for the Jews of the factory next to the tannery. It appeared on the site of a wooden synagogue that was once there. There were rooms on the first floor of the new synagogue for men to pray, and on the second floor for women. In the basement was a department for a synagogue servant who ordered and cared for the building and invited Jews to worship. The synagogue was dedicated to factory workers, but Jews from surrounding areas of the city also gathered here during the festivities.
During the Soviet era, the synagogue building was converted into a gymnasium, so the interior plan was changed: part of the windows were demolished, the altar was destroyed, and the living room on the ground floor was installed. To this day, only the exterior of the building has hardly changed.

Looking at Ch.Frenkel’s villa, don’t be surprised if a strange feeling overwhelms you. Only a vigilant passerby can see that this villa is a “glued” building from two identical houses, including a palace. And try to find at least 10 differences between those two sides. Don’t miss the opportunity to stop by Ch. The modern style park of Frenkel. There are concerts, celebrations and up to 1000 rizio bushes. Among them you can find the rose of President Gitan Nauseda.

- Resurrection Square and Radio. Of course, it looks best at night, but even during the day it’s easy to spot the lightning bolt that crosses the plaza.
- “80 butterflies – 80 years of theater construction”. Measure the wings on the dramatic theater wall. When the theater celebrated its 80th anniversary, the artists painted exactly the same number of butterflies. Both small and large wings can grow.
- Souffler. When the actor forgot the text, it reminded him of a hidden souffler. Today, he “whispers” the news into his repertoire.
- Sculpture “Where do the voices of the bells come from / Bell of Love” During the spring and autumn equinoxes the sun shines directly on the plane of the heart.
- Massive advertising accent “Robes”. If Vilnius is a city of fairy tales, then Šiauliai could be called a city of shoes. A few decades ago, there was a shoe store here, and that huge shoe sculpture was a high-volume advertisement.
- Bulk advertising accent “Dos Golondrinas”. Another example of advertising volume. Here was a parlor for newlyweds, now a jewelry store.

If you are hungry on your trip, we recommend that you try the following places while you are in the central part of the city:
Later on the route, we recommend that you stop and get out of your car at the Žaliūkai Windmill. The Žaliūkiai miller farm is a space for ethnoculture, traditional customs and entertainment, surrounded by a modern city. The miller’s farm was restored on the farm, the only surviving 19th century building in Šiauliai was restored. In the second half of the 19th century, the building of traditional Lithuanian wooden architecture was the Žaliūkiai windmill. Throughout the year, the daily life of the miller’s family takes place on the farm: the grain is milled, the bread is baked and daily life is diversified with the celebrated feasts of the Lithuanian calendar. Lake Rėkyva is the tenth largest lake in Lithuania and one of the oldest lakes of residual origin. It is interesting that no current flows into it, but three flow out: Kulpė, Šiauša and Tilžė. Lake Rėkyva feeds other Šiauliai lakes: Talkša (Talša), Prūdelis. The lake has been famous for its peat bogs. The first information on the operation of peatlands in the Šiauliai area was recorded in the 17th century.
From the 17th century. Pr. On the shore of Lake Rėkyva, the former lordship housed the Karpiai family, whose members include well-known personalities from Lithuanian history: the Bishop of Samogitian, Juozapas Mykolas Karpis, sent from Samogitian to the four-year-old ATR Seimas Mauricijus Pranciškus Karpis and others. Mauricio Francis Carp died in the Rėkyva mansion in 1817. At his request, a burial mound was dumped on the shore of the lake, which was later named Grabaučius Hill. An owners graveyard was located next to the graveyard.

XIX c. In the mid-19th century, the Rėkyva mansion experienced financial difficulties. During World War I, the main building of the manor house burned down. In interwar Lithuania, during land reform, most of the manorial land was distributed to military volunteers, partly to Šiauliai Fisheries, and partly to the Šiauliai City Board. 1932 A two-story grandparents’ shelter was built on the site of the old manor house (Poilsio str. 1). In this building in 1964. the eight-year Rėkyva school was established. Only a few fragments have survived from the old manor park. One of them is an old poplar alley.
After World War II, the settlement near Lake Rėkyva grew and construction of new houses, peat and grain processing companies began. The settlement was connected to the city of Šiauliai in 1965.
Currently, the lake shore is attractive to tourists: there is a restaurant “Fishermen’s Inn” (also a hotel), a sandy beach, yachts and boats that sail from two yacht clubs, kitesurfing enthusiasts choose a more secluded beach ( bathroom), there is already a base. A cognitive trail around Lake Rėkyva should also appear.

So stop in the parking lot at the end of the street. If you came here at night, wait for the sunset. It has little to do in Palanga. He reaches the end of the bridge, he feels how the water rocks him. A family of ducks lives by the bridge, do you agree?
If you’re tired of sitting in the car already, walk the slopes to the yacht club, or maybe you want to see a school famous for its beautiful surroundings? There is even an insect hotel there.
Where to eat
During quarantine, not all cafes can be visited, so a food ordering service can be an excellent solution when you are hungry during a trip. You couldn’t order food at home but take it with you.
