Immerse yourself in Klaipeda’s summer scenery that only SEL loves – architects offer unique ideas | Deal

The Klaipeda City Municipality had announced an architectural competition. It was expected to present projects on how to adapt the currently little used summer stage, to show the possibilities of the entire territory from Liepaja Street to the stage and its surroundings.

The task of the competition is formulated as follows: create a viable multifunctional complex that provides services throughout the year by functional, spatial and visual-artistic means, that expand the offer of sports, active leisure, entertainment, recreation, tourism, cultural services and increase the attractiveness of the territory.

I received two offers

Two different ideas were received. Its uniqueness is revealed in the photos.

Deputy Director of the Klaipeda Municipal Administration Advisor Richard Zulc 15 minutes he argued that the ideas were in fact radically different.

“It just came to our knowledge then. The redesigned object would be treated as a gateway to the Giruliai forest, to the health path, and the other object would be more multifunctional, related to attracting certain investments to this place”, said R. Zulcas .

The first project focuses on green spaces, a bike path that rises to the heights. It is true that the members of the commission saw similarities of this project with the idea already implemented in Zarasai.

In the second case, the offices would be integrated into the scene. The venue is not specified, and the summer stage, according to the advisor, looks quite attractive and the concert halls are maintained.

“The choir community has expressed their support for this project. Estrada would retain similar parameters. Certain roof constructions are possible, but the stage would not be permanently covered, ”said R. Zulcas.

Just done

He did not hide the fact that although the commission will evaluate both projects and award first and second place, their implementation is not recommended. The municipal administration, which has a working group in the summer stage, should decide what to do next, whether to implement the projects in part or rebuild the whole, and possibly launch a new call for ideas.

“It just came to our attention then. Destroying everything is a huge cost. There must be a justification of costs and benefits. You need a lot of money to invest and the question of what activities are planned is what funds to generate. Another option with offices: ¿ Can we say right now if those offices are needed in that place? Not long ago I participated in the conference that there are offices in Klaipeda scattered all over the city of Klaipeda, but there is not a disproportion of modern offices in the city that meet the need business. Given that the summer stage is close to the university, perhaps the topic to consider for its use would be a joint project. We still have absolutely no answers. The working group will have to meet and make final decisions. It may be different ” said a representative of the municipality.

R. Zulcas recalled that there has been talk of the total conversion of the summer scene in the past, so here a completely different object would appear.

“It just came to our knowledge then. The main user who seems to have the highest moral claim on this object is the choral community, but the choral tradition, which is the intangible heritage of Lithuania, is not necessarily associated with an object, as it is a centuries-old tradition, the question of whether that stage is necessary. The object is very specific, used for a very specific audience. When SEL sings, the entire Forest Quarter is unhappy, but no one comes to sing more than him. Is there such an object? Access for the disabled is a problem that has not been addressed. The whole complex is problematic and there are many unanswered questions, “said the chief tutor.

The summer stage is supervised by the budget body that manages the Palacio de los Pescadores. She has to take care of the territory, solve the problems: the wear and tear of certain parts, especially the open-air benches, which are always desperately trying to fix before the holidays, according to R. Zulc.

When SEL sings, the entire Forest Quarter is unhappy, but no one comes to sing anymore except him. Does such an object have to exist?

In 2014, the municipality had commissioned a feasibility study. One of the proposed alternatives is to replace the benches with other stone ones. The idea is to give the organizers a chance to hand out pillows so they can sit down and maybe bring their own.

The feasibility study identified four options. The first is to make minor repairs in the summer setting. The second is to make minimal changes, preserving the existing buildings, forming additional rooms under the covered part, replacing the wooden benches with concrete ones. The third alternative is to remove the part of the stage reserved for spectators by installing infrastructure that serves for outdoor training, space for group activities, sports fields. The fourth proposed to demolish the entire infrastructure and design a new facility.

Although only two experts in their field were interested in the architectural competition, R. Zulcas is not surprised. The same number of participants was received in the search for opportunities to adapt to the New Market.

“It just came to our attention then. The summer stage, a troublesome object built in the transit period during the Soviet era, evolved into a year of independence. Then the function became clear: mass celebrations were organized, rock marches were held During the independence period, there was a great need for the public. Now the need for that infrastructure has diminished, “said R. Zulcas.

The final verdict on the fate of the stage was not accepted. This issue is still being addressed.
