According to police, despite constant calls to stay home, the drivers explained that they were only going to see a Christmas tree in a foreign city or go shopping. There were also those who tried to break down the barriers.

At that time, the number of victims of the coronavirus in Lithuania exceeded a thousand. Another 33 people died in the country from Covid-19 last day, one of them under 40 years old.

“Let’s turn around, turn around,” said the representative of the shooters at the checkpoint.

Although the police and authorities have been trying to persuade people not to go to other cities for a week, the picture at the checkpoints has not changed today. Some of the drivers return home only to receive instructions from the officers.

Every thirty, at best. I have about five cars, ”says the shooter’s representative.

Weekend, so fewer people commute to work. More often, drivers try to convince officials that there is not enough food.

“We don’t miss those who go shopping. They say we go to the store for products or to the market, ”says the shooter’s representative.

Food, however, is not an important reason to go outside your municipality of residence, even if that limit is very close.

“We say: if you live in Avižieniai and there is a grocery store, buy there,” says the representative of the shooters.

Still, the flow of the cars themselves is less today than it was on Friday. And yesterday, the first day of mass movement control, the police ordered almost 3,300 people to turn around and return. Half of them tried to enter the capital without good reason. The travel destinations indicated by the drivers surprise the police.

“Most of them went for a walk, to see the Christmas tree, to buy Christmas gifts in some special store. Those people were not allowed to enter and return,” says Ramūnas Matonis, a police representative.

There are also those who have not heard anything about temporary bans. Or it doesn’t take care of all the necessary documents, especially proof of residence.

“Do you have any kind of document that indicates that you live at that address? – I think you have the data, enter it. – And you don’t have to? “No, I have a document, I live there and everything,” says the shooter’s representative.

“Some did not even know that it was not possible to drive, some heard for the first time about some checkpoints. Some did not know the need for documents. Some documents can be checked in databases, but it takes time, then other drivers have to wait longer ”, adds R. Matonis.

“Hello, where are we going? – House. “Can you have a residence address?” Asks the shooter’s representative.

And a couple of drivers are likely to get into serious trouble.

“The concrete barriers were damaged in both Kaunas and Vilnius, they were thrown down, there was an attempt to pull. In Vilnius county, the fence was dismantled and blocked, ”says R. Matonis

At the checkpoints, by the way, the police drew up only three protocols for violations of quarantine rules. But officials patrolling the cities drew up more than 60 protocols. Mainly for not wearing face masks and forging with something other than his family members.

All of these measures were introduced by the government to keep people at home and prevent the spread of the coronavirus. However, some are not intimidated by fines of up to 1,500 euros, and the virus continues to spread.

Covid-19 has already killed more than a thousand people in Lithuania. Yesterday another 33 deaths were registered in the country, and the total number of victims of the virus reached 1,005. Another patient who did not reach 40 also died.

This is the fourth coronavirus victim in this age group since the start of the pandemic. The Covid-19 infection currently infects a total of more than 57,000 people. Lithuanians, 3,219 new cases were confirmed yesterday, the majority in Vilnius county.

The coronavirus continues to spread in nursing homes, hospitals, and businesses. Yesterday, the highest number of infected was registered in the Strėvininkai welfare home in Kaišiadorys district, where 39 older people are ill.

By the way, Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys forced laboratories to enter coronavirus test responses into the electronic system daily, giving priority to the introduction of positive results. These deadlines have not been specified before and people have been waiting for answers for a few days.
