During the first 11 games, the basketball player plays an average of 32 minutes and earns 18.5 points (61% from colonies, 37.5% from triples), rebounds 8 points, makes 2.2 assists and accumulates 21.9 assists. balo.
In terms of both points won and utility points, M. Pacevičius ranks third in the NKL, and in terms of rebounds, the tall man ranks fourth. By comparison, he has averaged 11.4 more points in the league so far this season.
Kaunas resident NKL started his career in 2015, when he returned from an American high school and made his debut for the Šakiai “Vytis” team at the age of 18. In the second season he played in Marijampolė, the other three in Jonava, and for the sixth season he went to the capital.
On Saturday, M. Pacevičius will face Kaunas “Žalgiris-2” in the weekly NKL match, and the Vilnius match starting at 7 pm 30 minutes. will be broadcast live on Info TV.
Before this match, M. Pacevičius told the website nklyga.lt about his long career leg in Jonava, the switch to Perlą Energija, the racing season and the goal of moving to the main Vilnius Rytas team.
– Martynai, you played in Jonava three years ago, and this summer you moved to Vilnius “Pearl-Energy”, where young people usually play. Were you surprised by such an offer from Perlo Energija?
– Already last season, the agent mentioned that he was interested in “Pearl Energy”, so there was no big surprise. Last season I couldn’t move to “Pearl Energy”, during those three years I couldn’t leave the Jonava club many times, although I had several offers. I considered moving to the Vilnius club as a good opportunity to grow and improve, so I didn’t give it much thought.
– During those three years, did you feel as if you were sitting in a place in the Jonava club?
– Yes, but when I signed a contract with the Jonava team for three years, then the NKL didn’t have any statistics, I played only in the “Vytis” and “Sūduva-Mantinga” teams, where I didn’t get many minutes. Before signing the contract with the Jonava club and I still had no agent, I just signed a three-year contract because I knew that until today no one offers me any contract and I have no other option. There was simply no one interested and something needed to be done.
– What suggestions did you have to play in Jonava?
– After the first year I had an offer to return to Sūduva-Mantinga, and after the second season I received an offer from Lietkabelis. It was painful not being able to get out. But nothing, I walked, played, kept working and always consoled myself with the idea that nothing in life happens without a reason.
– You became the captain of “Perlo Energija”, do you have additional responsibilities for that?
– There is no position, I am only the boss, also the captain, so I feel obliged to be an example for the younger players, to show what it means to be a professional basketball player. They come from the Student Basketball League and maybe sometimes they lack the courage, maybe the workload demotivates them, they get tired. I try to give an example of how to move forward.
I was older than I was in Jonava, but I was never oppressed as a young player like in other places. I appreciate the fact that in Jonava, the older players treated me well, trying only to advise, not, for example, to yell. I try to be the same in the Perlo Energija team with young players. I am trying to convey what I already know.
– This season is the best race for you. Do you feel that you are being better exploited?
– They really exploit me in a completely different way, they have given me a leadership role. Coach Edvinas Justa trusts me a lot, he works a lot with me on various issues, both psychologically and to raise my basketball level. I moved from Kaunas to Vilnius in mid-June and my team and I started preparing for the season. Since then there has been no break with basketball.
In August, I joined Ryto’s team for preseason camp, which also brought many benefits. Now they also have to play sports with them for the second week, because their ranks are dwindling. Much has been done, a lot of attention has been paid to improving vulnerabilities, etc. I think everything went well.
– How is your farm different from previous seasons?
– I am the oldest and physically strongest in the team, there are combinations that are for me. I have a lot of confidence in the coach and the teammates, so sometimes I can try to finish the ball myself with points, not necessarily with a combination.
– This season, on average, shoot 2.2 triples per game and hit 37.5 percent. spear. In the past, you were attacking from the 3-point zone much less often, have you improved your shooting?
– Since June, I have been improving the weakest places, and that has determined everything. We work a lot on dribbling the ball, the game against the basket and the three-point game. Now I have three tips at the same time better than from a medium distance. In the past when I was still playing in US high school, I was shooting 3s, I was allowed to do it, I was confident and I was hitting.
After that, it turned out that I attacked the coaches, who didn’t really want it, there were others who threw 3s. They wanted me to play the typical role of a center. So I didn’t pitch, and now it’s my time to convert to a lower position overall, I hardly play fifth number anymore, I’m playing a heavy winger, and looking ahead, maybe I should move to third position. Until then, in my career, I have always played in the middle forward position.
– How are you doing in the “morning” workouts and how often do you attend them?
– I will still go today (the interview took place on Friday morning – last aut.), At the beginning of training with “Rytas”, and then – with “Pearl Energija”. Of course, in such situations, Perlo Energija workouts take that burden off us, because I imagine there’s not much that can take it. You also have to play in the match.
I think I am doing well in morning practice, of course, sometimes it is difficult to understand all the details that the coach asks for, because there are still some tactical things that are a little different from Pearl Energy. It takes a few days to refocus on how things work in the morning. And now for the second week in a row we are doing sports with “Rytas” every day, I have understood everything, I put 100% of my share. efforts to improve. I think those training sessions are going well.
– Do you have a goal to get into Morning’s main lineup?
– Yes. The goal is to play at Perle Energia to the best of my ability, to help me get as many victories as possible, so I can move on to Morning. Sure, it’s not up to me here, but a good game can lead to that.
Now in the morning there is a difficult situation, someone gets injured, someone leaves. I find it very difficult for them and for them to say something specific. I just need to work hard and sooner or later I will have a chance.
– On Saturday a game with Kaunas “Žalgiris-2” awaits you. What matches are you waiting for?
– The coach emphasizes great energy, great physique. I expect a good fight, but frankly, I don’t really value the match. Of course, this is Vilnius against Kaunas, but I think we have to go with the same attitude as any other match. We have to do what the coach asks.
