“We live in an age where, by being safe in our home, we can instantly hear and see the people we love, no matter where they are in the world. Today, smart technologies are already simple enough to let everyone understand. We still have a few days before Christmas to help parents, grandparents or other loved ones this age to do so. Call, explain, teach; let at least those virtual meetings during the holidays keep you from feeling separate ”Says the mayor of Kaunas, Visvaldas Matijošaitis, in a press release.
According to him, the most precious thing we can give ourselves this Christmas is preserved health: “It sounds strange, but that gift is given simply by being at home and not traveling with family or friends. Let the conversations and smiles on your computer or smartphone screen during the holidays redeem what has quarantined us. And we will be able to meet live and hug each other not so much, if only now, in this difficult moment, we will stop for a short time. “
Photography contest “Holidays at a distance”
Action #KaledosKitly invites not only Kaunas residents, but also people from all over Lithuania to perform two simple tasks. First of all, these days you can reach older family members by phone and give them a “remote lesson” on how to install and use one of the teleconferencing applications.
Messenger, Viber, WhatsApp, Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, Skype – names familiar to many. Older people can easily understand at least one of them.
After successfully overcoming the initial stage, all that remains is to use it during Christmas itself, capture those “remote” vacation moments in photographs and share them on social networks with the work #KaledosKitaip.
Photos are also accepted before December 27. by mail [email protected]. Kaunas prepared Christmas gifts for the authors of the ten most original takes and selected the lottery.

A different wait for the holidays

Internet adress kaledos.kaunas.lt Together with their parents, the little ones can watch videos of festive workshops and educational activities: learn to dance together at Christmas, listen to the reading of fairy tales, learn to make decorations and other works.
Many people’s favorite Christmas mail has also moved into the virtual space: sweet greetings in the form of e-cards can also be sent to loved ones from the website kaledos.kaunas.lt.
At that time, the festive concert of lighting the Christmas tree in Kaunas was broadcast only on television. A novelty this year became the Kaunas 2022 initiative: a Christmas musical bus, bringing good mood and festive music to the patios of Kaunas residents.
