According to the Prime Minister, the forecasts of the pandemic in the country modeled by experts clearly show the connection between public behavior and the consequences.
“If the experts allow it, we will share that forecast publicly so that people can see how much their actions affect the situation,” I. Šimonytė told the Seimas on Tuesday.
According to the head of government, experts see with the scenario how the development of the state could be seen in the coming months.
“If people follow the quarantine rules quite massively and sincerely, then we can wait and talk about several hundred cases by the end of January. Maybe then we will be at the stage where we will be able to handle the situation smoothly with the help with certification, traceability assistance and other means, ”said I. Šimonytė.
If the public still does not follow the prohibitions and recommendations of the quarantine regime adopted by the government, said the prime minister, experts predict a high number of cases of COVID-19 infection already after the holidays.
“So those diseases would take longer to reach a manageable level again. There is no better proof for people that their actions are critical in this case,” said I. Šimonytė.
A person will be designated to manage and coordinate the logistics of the vaccines.
According to the Prime Minister, vaccines against the coronavirus will have priority for medical personnel and high-risk workers.
“Mass vaccination will begin when we have enough vaccines to start. Clearly, the priority is clear, it is the same all over the world: medical workers, those people who work and have a very high risk of infection. The following are the risk groups: the elderly, people with certain diseases, if vaccination is the appropriate solution according to their clinical condition. After that, the general public is there, ”I. Šimonytė said at the Seimas on Tuesday.
However, he emphasized that the most important thing now is to guarantee the smooth logistics of the purchased vaccines.
“Now the most important thing is not to fix the queues, but to fix the logistics themselves correctly, which the Ministry of Health is working on. The decisions of the outgoing government, which were taken only by transferring responsibility to the municipalities without any real implementation mechanism, (…) are a more declarative proposal for everyone to somehow solve the problems for themselves, ”said the Prime Minister.
According to I. Šimonytė, the Government will probably appoint a person to coordinate vaccination logistics throughout the country, as recommended by experts.
It will focus on publicizing vaccine information.
When speaking of the public attitude towards vaccines, the Prime Minister assured that efforts will be made to encourage the vaccination of the population.
“It will be a voluntary decision of the general public, whether they want to get vaccinated or not.” I think a lot of attention will have to be paid to providing information during these months. I think it should be presented in a clear and transparent way so that people really know that there is no silence of the truth or something that is not said ”, emphasized the Prime Minister.
According to I. Šimonytė, information should be provided to the public both about the benefits of vaccines and about the possible risks. It is planned to discuss this process with representatives of the communication and creative industries.
“Obviously, there are people in society who deny vaccines as a solution to any problem, sometimes we have them in the Seimas. Apparently trying to persuade them is a rather thankless pursuit. Apparently, time and effort should be devoted to informing those who, in principle, support or doubt and listen to the information ”, added I. Šimonytė.
