It’s uphill: for me, the quarantined vacation won’t ruin it, nor how to have a restaurant at home legally

In the second lines of this letter, I would like to remind you that restaurants are among the most affected and undeservedly during the quarantine: people have lost their jobs and income, professional growth has stopped, investments are at a negative level, many weaker but interesting places are closing and the Lithuanian network monsters with microwave which is not gratifying.

Why undeservedly? Because restaurants were subject to disproportionately strict containment measures, as they were certainly not the largest, not second, fifth or 10th in terms of risk of infection. Churches, fairs, Christmas tree walks, sea festivals, school lessons, grocery stores with retirees with chin masks and other evils were forgiving, but the previous government was shy and despised by the previous government, especially because it was poured into the devil’s drops. .

A large part of society has shown what it pays for, rotting with jealousy and hatred: eat at home, springs and rich, all the trouble for you, eat like us: potatoes from a pan with sunflower oil from last year. There will be no lobsters or steaks for you.

The restaurants showed wonders of discipline and order: pushing tables, increasing distances, sanitizing everything over and over again, strictly following the requirements, because they used, at least in hospitals, to follow hygiene requirements and many survived, creating new jobs for outsiders, and there are, who themselves, in the intervals between the kitchen, their wives and children, take orders to people’s houses. Others transport food to doctors like “Fast Snail” (I wrote about this great restaurant in Dvarčionys to “Delfi” in happier times, and here Delfi spoke of his service with the help of doctors).

Restaurants have also stalled because many people, realizing that this is the way many people who work in a very heavy industry are supported, have booked and are ordering at home. Every order that you take home or pick up from a safe place to go is a sacred act.

This long introduction is to the strange but enjoyable experience we had yesterday, reluctantly ordering food from our favorite but quarantined restaurant on Gediminas Avenue, The Town (this is what I wrote about them as soon as we returned from California this year and when we were quarantined the ghost is still sharpening his scythe).

Why reluctantly? Because it seemed to us that that food doesn’t travel because it can’t travel (that’s what we think), so we didn’t want to be disappointed, and then we thought a lot. On the packaging you see the name of my friend Fausta Marija Leščiauskaitė: it is no coincidence that a woman chooses the whole range for a review (just give me a will, I will order a hamburger), and thanks to her my reviews are constantly improving and becoming more relevant and interesting to a wide range of readers.

The restaurant has (at least in the Wolt app, which is not related to this review and doesn’t cost us money yet, maybe because we didn’t ask for that money, but it would be great if they understood and donated something, although maybe not, not honest or ethical, but if you want to give us something, please always, we do not tell anyone), that’s why The Town restaurant has its own recommended dishes, and it seems to us that these are only the dishes that travel well. But we’ve tried both those and the simple menu suggestions, and we’re surprised to say that they all travel very well.

I can also say that we were absolutely overwhelmed and shocked in a good way not only for the quality (just look at the packaging, the napkins, the jars, all that thoroughness, we saw it only at Da Antonio restaurant, which is also well prepared for the food delivery, I wrote about them during the first quarantine), but also extraordinary solemnity. There was a luxurious Christmas lunch on the table (I don’t know if they will work at Christmas), a duck confit (€ 9.50) was especially amazing and Christmas, with cranberry sauce: those blueberries were a real promise of celebration and happiness. The duck itself was smooth and firm in consistency, and Lithuanian mashed potatoes are best served only in “Stikliu”, made according to the recipe of French legend Joël Robuchon.

The octopus (€ 22.50) was perfectly baked, and I remembered that once while I was sleeping I promised my friend that I would learn how to make an octopus, and the promise is not fulfilled: as soon as the quarantine ends, I have already agreed with a chef from a restaurant to teach me how to make an octopus.

The Kiev cutlet for a ridiculous amount of 7.50 EUR (because it is actually very little money) was so good that it was only made better in Palanga with “Pine Shade” by Ingrida Sabonienė (my most read review of 2018 is here ), I used to cut a rectangular well that I could soak the bread in liquid butter inside. Was this the best cutlet in Vilnius Kiev? I think so. And yet those tender, creamy beets – another attribute of the festive table. I had them for dessert.

Veal cap (tartar), 11.50 EUR, surprised not only by the fact that it arrived completely intact during the trip, but also by the quality of the mature veal, which can only be guaranteed by the best steakhouses in Vilnius, but also with lots of capers, onions and mustard – flavor bomb and cartridge.

Probably some of the best in the country were the chicken wings with barbecue sauce (8.50 EUR), juicy, with a lot of meat, a great pleasure to shell; maybe even better is offered by the excellent American pizza chain Pizza Hut, whose restaurant (normal size) in Lithuania of course, it is not, Burger King has already appeared, thank God and business, and when it is Pizza Hut with cheese rim and pork meatballs, I ask you.

And the last chord: my whim, which at first seemed strange to me: Caesar salad. The problem with Caesar salads is that they are absolutely best made in Bučeris (I wrote about them a long time ago, in 2017, when they were still in Oze, now they are in Panorama, Vilnius and still in Ogmios town), and yes, ” Salčeri “didn’t have that salad, but it was very close. Even the cupcakes, croutons, I’m not a fan, they were light, airy, raw here, and the bounty of the aged cheese was disproportionate to the modest price of 6.50 euros.

All of this incredible celebration, along with the shipping fee, is just $ 66.50. That way I could have lunch every day.

Five geese out of five, and thanks for being there and working.
