Romena Savickienė, director of the Klaipėda Tourist Information Center, which started the project, says that the eight sculptures have been selected in the central part of the city and in the old town.

“They talk and tell stories about themselves and the city. All the texts are written in a very attractive, interesting way, a little different. We invite all citizens and guests to get to know the city in this way. Probably the most interesting sculpture for the guests is Tarava Anike. We dreamed a long time ago of making the people of this place, especially German tourists, listen to a poem by Simon Dacht dedicated to Tara Anike, which is like a song. Your Germans are in primary school and many older Germans have come here and sing it. Now this song is sung in German, while here our guests will be able to listen to it.

Other sculptures also tell interesting stories, many of which will not even be heard. I will mention some of them: the “Black Ghost”, which, as you know, is even included in the list of the strangest sculptures in the world, the sculpture “Kiss”, “Fisherman”, “Mermaid”. Some sculptures have already been forgotten, such as “Neringa”, their history is often not known, and now there will be an opportunity to listen. Vydūnas with its story, “Little Klaipeda”, is located in the new square, on the way to the Sculpture Park. They all speak and speak about themselves in three languages: German, Lithuanian and English, ”said R. Savickienė.

According to the head of the tourism center, a frequent guest or a resident of Klaipeda visits the sculptures of a kitten, mouse or “Childhood Dream” that have become popular and the other is forgotten. Each of the sounded sculptures also tells stories of the nearby buildings. Here, “Fisherman” will talk about the town hall, “Kiss”, which is embodied by a girl, will tell about a boy standing on the other shore and tied up in boats. This composition is called “Dream of childhood”. Those who do not have the opportunity to hear sound sculptures can read all the stories on the website of the Klaipeda Information and Tourism Center.

R.Savickienė believes that this entertainment will be popular in the port city, especially since distance must be observed and quarantine requirements must be taken into account. This entertainment can be enjoyed with the whole family.

There are about 200 sculptures and monuments in Klaipeda. It is expected that in the future they may sound at least ten percent. They would become even more visited places in the port city.

Until now, there were famous sculptures in Lithuania only in the capital.
