The restored legendary high-speed ship “Raketa” arrived from Kaunas to Nida on Friday. It is true that the first trip took place without passengers, since the technical capabilities of the ship were verified.
Swim first
On Thursday, the ship “Raketa” conducted a test drive at Nemunas, at a fairly short distance, and on Friday the ship was launched at full speed to Nida. Nemunas tested the operation of all systems, given the load, and tried to swim in non-standard conditions. Everything to be able to safely run the regular Kaunas-Nida-Kaunas routes.
We had forgotten how beautiful our homeland is.
“There are many impressions and emotions, it is still difficult to concentrate and name them orally. There was a very pleasant climate, we admired the incredible views. We had forgotten how beautiful our homeland is. We thought that swimming was as it should be, but we have not yet received more technical observations from the captain. But of course the ship has been inspected a hundred times before setting sail, and that should not be a bad observation. During this trip, there were various accelerations and decelerations and other tasks for the ship, therefore , the navigation time was a little longer than usual, “Nerijus Šilagalis, head of the public water company Vandens kelias, told kauno.diena.lt.
He reported that next week “Raketa” will start sailing regularly to Nida. From Thursday an official presentation and navigation with passengers will be organized.
Ticket price
It is announced that a one-way trip will cost a person 49 euros, those who want to sit by the window will pay 59 euros for a ticket.
“We are looking for various ways to finance how representatives of the socially sensitive part of society can use entertainment more cheaply. We intend to work with municipalities and companies so that as many people as possible can test the route. of the rocket. We are going to organize family days and seniors, “said N. Schilagalis.
Several times a week
The route plan was drawn up last year. It will not change this summer either.
“Raketa” is scheduled to leave the port of Kaunas every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 9 am. in the morning. The boat will depart from the port of Nida every Thursday, Friday and Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
“It should be noted that on Saturday the ship, which departed from Kaunas, will sail overnight in Nida and will return only on Sunday,” N. Schilagalis drew attention to the route.
The trip to Nida is expected to take around 3.5 hours, back to Kaunas the ship will sail a bit longer as it will be necessary to sail against the current of Nemunas. The rocket must sail at 60 km / h. speed. For the ship, that speed is quite impressive.
A legend revived
The portal kauno.diena.lt recalls that the news about the revived “Rocket” was announced last year. Entrepreneurs upgraded the ship by about 100,000. euros The rocket was launched, but last season it did not set sail for Nida, because the necessary documents could not be obtained to guarantee the safety of the ship, because no one produces those ships anymore.
It was announced that the Inland Waterways Directorate had repaired the rocket on behalf of the entrepreneurs, and it was also necessary to prepare the riverbed to remove the shallow water. All of this has been done since the beginning of last year. The groove was cleaned not only for the rocket, but generally to ensure sailing conditions.
Regular speedboat navigation ceased in 1995. Some ships were sold and shipped to other countries, others were scrap metal. Attempts have been made for some time to revive navigation in the Nemunas, but since 2010. There were no more “missile” type ships in the Nemunas.
