In a meeting with European leaders in Brussels on Thursday on managing the COVID-19 situation, G. Nausėda told reporters earlier in the week that he had warned that the government should follow the recommendations of health experts and scientists and “especially reduce the number of family contacts.”

“It just came to our attention then. If we were to make a breakthrough in the next few weeks, we could welcome Christmas at least a little more smoothly. Unfortunately, not all those measures were implemented, some of them were ignored. That is why I do them an appeal, dear brothers: you can voluntarily follow the measures that have not been implemented by limiting the number of your contacts between families, “he said.

Let us focus, as always, on the difficult times in our history. When we did that, everything was fine.

According to the president, we usually give gifts to relatives for Christmas, but on this occasion we can also give a gift to strangers.

And that gift is health. Maybe even life. So I ask again: let us focus, as always, on the difficult times in our history. When we did it, everything was fine, “he said.

The president also claims that the Saulius Skvernelis government has not been able to smoothly transfer all responsibilities to the new Lithuanian government.

“Unfortunately, in countries with a high political culture, the fluidity of such a transfer would have been greater. This did not happen in Lithuania, so we see some completely unnecessary changes at the door,” he said.

In recent days, the number of newly diagnosed coronavirus infections has surpassed 3,000, and more than 30 people have died in the past two days. At a meeting of the Council of Experts in the Presidency on Sunday, it was proposed to tighten the quarantine conditions. The cabinet tightened on Monday, but President Gitan Nauseda said they were not enough.

According to the government decision, it is forbidden to meet with more than two families or households as of Wednesday, older students have switched to full distance education, supermarkets are obliged to restrict the flow of buyers, etc.
