On Wednesday, I. Šimonytė declared that he could take whatever restrictions could be taken. However, the prime minister-designate cannot reveal the details.

“Look, don’t ask me those details, because I can’t tell them now,” I. Šimonytė told reporters gathered at the Seimas on Thursday.

According to her, when her cabinet receives the mandate to act on Friday, it will meet with experts to discuss what specific decisions can be made. I. Šimonytė reiterated that an unscheduled meeting of the government could be called this weekend.

“We were already going to work on the budget project over the weekend, all the ministers are ready to work, because we have little time to return the budget to Seimas next week. This means that we do not have many days and we will have to work on weekend one way or another. If it were seen, yesterday I did not rule out such an opportunity, nor do I rule out today that the government meeting is necessary for decision-making, it would be organized during the weekend “, said I. Šimonytė.

Although the specialists who work in the Council of Health Experts convened by the president already spoke on Sunday about the need to tighten the quarantine, according to I. Šimonytė, the situation has changed since Sunday.

“The question is, is it enough? Is it enough to encourage everyone or instruct everyone to telecommute, which is one of the solutions? Do you already need an additional solution? I don’t want to comment on the details, you can see for yourself that the situation is very dynamic, “said the prime minister-designate.

According to I. Šimonytė, the coalition partners should not oppose the tightening of the quarantine.

“I did not meet a single person who would not see the situation, would not see the number, would not see that we lose too many lives every day so that we could not react in any way,” said I. Šimonytė.

The politician stated that he did not remove the restrictions “from the hat” because it was necessary to trust first in health experts and scientists.

“It is a great pity that we do not have the data that allow us to make very correct decisions, that is, to apply measures where there is a greater risk of contagion. We just don’t have that data. We have many numbers that come from everywhere. It is already true that in such cases the restrictions are more or less universal, ”said I. Šimonytė.

What do terrible decisions mean? Frightening are the statistics, frightening is that people are dying, frightening is that doctors are working on the brink of exhaustion. That is scary. Restrictions can be unpleasant, they can confuse people’s plans, but they are certainly not scary. It’s scary when your loved one dies unaided, whether it’s from a fight or some complication. <...> This is really scary. I said and I will say that if it is necessary to take responsibility, I will take that responsibility, ”continued I. Šimonytė.

According to her, the task now is to save as many lives as possible during the Christmas period. I. Šimonytė stated that she would be one of the first to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

“Yes I will. I do not want this to be understood as a privilege. I have never needed any privilege in my life and I do not need the privilege of vaccination. But if the people who are known in society, not only me, but also others people whose word is heard, the so-called influencers, people of art, science, doctors, agree to cause such a wave, it would be very good.

I don’t believe in brainwashing, but nevertheless informing the public why, without this option, we will be doomed to ride such roller coasters all the time is very important. Therefore, I am ready to be the person to get vaccinated with that vaccine to show that it is safe, ”said I. Šimonytė.

Last day 3,330 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed, 31 people died from COVID-19, the Department of Statistics said on Thursday. This is the highest number of new confirmed cases per day since the start of a pandemic. 1220 people recovered on the last day.
