The Vice Chancellor of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and member of the Health Council established by the President, LSMU prof. Dr. Kęstutis Petrikonis. According to him, the situation is already bad, but the government cannot communicate it to the public.

“There is no clear message for the Lithuanian population. After the measures introduced, we can hope that they will be effective, but we do not have that message. We are not telling the people of Lithuania that now we live badly. We have to say that today we have a bad situation If 3 weeks ago we could have thought that these measures would work, that the conscience of the Lithuanian people would reach the required level, today we have to say that it is bad.

If other states, say Ireland, which is larger in terms of culture and emigration, it has been resolved. He has about 200 cases a day and we have more than 2000 cases. cases per day. And yet we have not identified those cases. There really are many more. And people should understand that, ”said the professor.

For the health system – 2 weeks

K. Petrikonis also shared the terrifying thoughts that after 2 weeks the healthcare system may collapse:

“The situation is so threatening that after 2 weeks, the health system could completely collapse and burn out. Hospitals are already full. Those who treat patients with Covid-19 will fill up even more, because while they expand the spaces, the staff and all the infrastructure does not allow them to do it in full quality. We need to limit other health measures and people will not receive help due to other diseases. “

According to him, just like in medicine, the fight against coronavirus requires short and unpleasant procedures to be able to live a full life afterwards.

“The decisions made by the government, in my opinion, are rational and logical, but let’s understand, they go away. The new government probably needs to come and order asap. Sometimes you have to say suffer, do an unpleasant procedure and then live normally. <...> The next two weeks are critical, ”said the LSMU Vice Chancellor.
