Sufficient evidence was gathered that 23-year-old Juneer, taking advantage of a young woman’s vulnerability, exploited her to satisfy her sexual needs and those of men found through online advertisements.
Earlier this year, a young woman from Aukštaitija met a young woman who began to show her attention through social media. A self-confident girl with a lack of social skills and health problems soon fell in love with him.
A foreigner who earns money abroad, having gained the girl’s trust, began to demand that she send him photos and videos of a sexual nature, otherwise he would no longer communicate with her.
When the victim fulfilled this requirement, Juneer began posting sexual services on the website. He persuaded the girl to meet with the men who responded to the ads and demanded that she be able to monitor her sex through video calls.
Relatives found out about the girl’s sexual abuse by reading SMS messages sent to her by strangers. The family turned to a non-governmental organization, the Center for the Fight Against Human Trafficking and Exploitation (CPTI), for help. Representatives of the latter denounced the possible case of human trafficking to law enforcement officials.
According to Aurelijus Navickas, Prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office, which led the preliminary investigation, the accused admits his guilt.
“Taking advantage of the vulnerability of the victim, he involved the girl in sexual exploitation by communicating with her only virtually, while she was abroad and never met the girl,” said the prosecutor.
Trafficking cases are extremely sensitive and the damage caused to victims of such crimes is immeasurable. The representatives of the KOPŽI Center did a great job in providing all possible assistance to the affected girl.
The Penal Code provides for prison sentences of 2 to 10 years for trafficking in human beings.
The case was transferred to the Panevėžys Regional Court.
