Navickas.
According to the candidate, a constant and moderate shift towards better environmental quality in agriculture is very important.
“It is important not only for wildlife, but also for us, the consumers, who want to have quality food and a closer social relationship with the people who live in the countryside and produce food for us.
At this point, we are related, whether we like it or not. There is no “they” and no “us”. We share the same ecosystem, the same landscape. I want to reduce the gap between the environmental sector and agriculture, ”said K. Navickas.
He said that farmers will not be offered a revolution in the agricultural sector, but assured that agriculture does not remain paralyzed, because even today there are farmers who use modern technologies in their activities. K. Navickas noted that a lot of funds were also allocated for agricultural modernization in the European Recovery Fund.
The candidate admitted that he has not yet begun to speak with members of the future team. According to K. Navickas, he presented the vision of the team formation to the president and did not hear any critical comments from G. Nausėda.
“I do not want to make urgent decisions, I will look for leaders in one or another agricultural subsector”, assured K. Navickas.
The National Christian Democratic Union of Lithuania announced on Sunday that it would nominate former Environment Minister K. Navickas to the Ministers of Agriculture.

Navickas’ political experience, the ability to work with the communities, the competence in the field and especially the knowledge of the European Green Course, I believe, will help agriculture to take advantage of the new opportunities of the European Union, to move towards a greater agricultural competitiveness and added value, “said Ingrida. According to her, in addition to the introduction of advanced technologies and other smart agricultural and business management solutions (robotics, artificial intelligence), it is necessary to provide more effective support to medium-sized family farms, increase the attractiveness of rural areas, create better conditions for young farmers and local communities.
K. Navickas is the second candidate proposed by the Conservatives for the post of Minister of Agriculture. President Gitanas Nausėda rejected the candidacy of the current Chancellor of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dalia Miniataitė, previously proposed on Friday.
The President praised D. Miniataitė for his experience in the agricultural sector, but said she expected “not only short-term actions, but throughout the period” as well as the vision to implement the idea of ”Green Lithuania”.
In 2016-2018, K. Navickas worked as Minister of the Environment in the government of Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis.
At the end of 2018, S. Sknervelis, motivating the need to “recharge” the Cabinet of Ministers, dismissed K. Navickas together with the Ministers of Education and Culture – Jurgita Petrauskiene and Liana Ruokyte-Jonsson.
K. Navickas had also stated at that time that he did not see the possibility of continuing to work with S. Skvernelis.
K. Navickas, 50, graduated from Vilnius University with a BA in History and from Mykolas Romeris University with a MA in Public Administration.
For almost a decade, he worked as an expert at the Baltic Environmental Forum, headed the office of the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe in Lithuania, and most recently served as the Deputy Department for Development and Innovation of Vėjo projektai.
