The Christmas tree lighting festival on the Baltic coast, which was moved to computer and phone screens, created the fairy tale of the “Ice Queen”, in which the Christmas trees of Palanga and Šventoji can be seen from any corner of the world. The ornate green scarves sparkle with bright garlands at the same time, and the heroes of the fairy tale win the fight against evil and present the fairy tale not only virtually, but also to resort residents and guests who have arrived. .
Warnings not to navigate and maintain a safe distance, repeated with increasing frequency, yet for some the desire to see ornate Christmas trees alive outweighs anxiety over the spread of the virus.
“We come to Palanga for the fifth year, we have the tradition of coming through the lighting of a Christmas tree. We are not from Vilnius, there are not many people ”, opens the couple from the capital.
“We don’t know where to look for light on the Internet, we came to see the Christmas tree,” admitted the Kaunas couple.
“We come from Klaipeda, we come to walk to Palanga on weekends, we just hit him,” smiled a girl who came with two friends.
People who talk about the threat of the virus say they feel safe in Palanga, because there are not many people and even when they come to the Christmas tree, they stay away from each other.
During the celebration of the lighting of the Christmas tree of Palanga, Santa Claus and the mayor of the city Šarūnas Vaitkus wish that the dark thoughts do not obscure the festive joy, and that the celebrations are cozy and safe.
