Although this year the festive time for quarantine is different, the team “Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022” invites citizens to keep the festive spirit, because the Christmas atmosphere will reach the yards of the neighbors by bus.
The Christmas bus, which visited two courtyards in Kaunas on Thursday night, will continue its journey from December 9 for two weeks. Christmas music will be played from the bus, and residents are invited to listen to the concert from their balconies or through their windows.
Patio with 6840 bulbs
The first yard where Kaunas 2022 and the Kautra bus – T. Masiulis 12 and 14 houses stopped. These apartment buildings are famous for their community spirit.
The residents of the houses on Calle T. Masiulio 12 and 14 decided to change their surroundings themselves. 6,840 bulbs. Both lit up the common courtyard of these two apartment buildings.

According to David Shatik, a resident of the house, the yard was decorated in 2018. “Then the neighbor decorated the fir tree in the yard. While driving through the presidency, I saw ornate trees. We thought it would also fit in our backyard. The goal was to decorate at least one, but when we started, we decorated nine trees. We turned 19 garlands “, said D. Šatikas.
The patio community decorated the trees themselves, and during the work they had to wear climbing gear and protectors. Last year, the shipyard won the “Patio Fluxus” contest of the “Kaunas 2022” program.
Speaking about the holiday bus, Mr. Šatikas said that it delighted the residents: “I think the bus is the culmination, like a snowball. We immediately started with small works in the yard as a community, and now with this visit, we have become the first yard. This is something unreal. When you do something, the good deeds start rolling one after another. “

We don’t appreciate the little things
Jurga Šeduikytė, Ambassador of Kaunas 2022, greeted the residents of the courtyards of this apartment building.
Residents were able to listen to recordings of his Christmas songs, as well as with the Kaunas 2022 campaign, Jurga shared his legendary work “Let It Snow! Let it Snow! Let It Snow! ”Version (of his next Christmas mini-album).
“I was looking for an answer for myself, how do you survive this moment where there is a little anxiety? And I found the answer in a book: when it’s really scary, think about what you can do with the person around you, “said Jurga.

As Jurga says, before changing these lives – two quarantines – we were probably a bit overwhelmed and underestimated the importance of the little things.
“And now we are all limited, our actions are limited, especially by all artists. I personally enjoy every opportunity to share music. I feel like people are also yearning for concerts. We begin to appreciate what was a little forgotten. Is it bad – At Christmas, remember the most important thing – the relationship? That is the purpose of Christmas, no matter what year and what type it is, “said J. Šeduikytė.
The meeting with the neighbors of houses 12 and 14 of T. Masiulis, although at a distance, also left an emotion in Jurga: “It’s good to see people. I think this time it has shown us that people are very connected.
We are all in the same boat and we must remember that this is our greatest human value and not be locked in our loneliness, but remember that there are people around us ”.

The celebration comes to everyone’s house
Another courtyard where the festive bus stopped on Thursday night is the joint residents of houses 31, 31G and 27 on Avenida A.Juozapavičius.
Dainė, a local resident, said she really wanted her yard to be the first where the holiday bus would stop: “But we were second. We wanted, we asked you to come to us. What a thrill? Have fun waiting. We inform all the neighbors, all the houses, that they could look out the windows. It’s fun for us too. “
Egidijus Stancikas, Kaunas 2022 Ambassador and Director of the Kaunas National Drama Theater, reminded him of the upcoming holidays and their wait.

“It just came to our attention then. Whoever listens to us at home, open the windows, go out to the balconies. Do not go to the patio, stay in your own house because the celebration comes to everyone’s house thanks to the culture.
I believe that wherever the light is turned on, there are eyes and an open heart, welcoming the festive bus from Kaunas, the European Capital of Culture, this time to its courtyard, ”E. Stancikas greeted residents.
Yards of apartment buildings and hospitals
As soon as Kaunas 2022 announced that Kaunas residents could invite a Christmas bus to their apartment buildings, many Kaunas apartment buildings wanted such entertainment.
According to Irutė Tumaitė, Marketing Director of Kaunas 2022, 170 invitations have already been received.
“The bus will run every day from December 9 until the holidays. This will take several hours a day. It will visit 11 different neighborhoods and as many yards as possible. Not all of them are going to be delivered, because not all yards are suitable for a such a big bus, there is simply no possibility to enter some of them, ”said I.Tumaitė.
According to I.Tumaitė, such a large number of invitations is not surprising: in a world stopped by a pandemic, people miss events and emotions, and that bus is one of the surest ways to feel an emotion at home.
The bus will also stop in the courtyards of Kaunas hospitals, expressing support for the hard-working doctors today.

Christmas music will be played
Organizers invite residents to actively wait for the bus, decorating the patios or windows of their houses with Christmas lights and other festive decorations.
On December nights, the bus will offer a concert of carefully selected, updated and time-tested Christmas records.
For two weeks until Christmas, a bus decorated with Christmas motifs will visit a different courtyard in the Kaunas district. From this Christmas “radio on wheels” you will hear a gift for the residents: Christmas songs specially donated to Kaunas by renowned Lithuanian artists: selected by them from the Christmas repertoire or recorded for this project.
Kaunas residents will listen to recorded Christmas music from Kaunas 2022 ambassadors Linas Adomaitis, Golden Parazyth, Rūta Mur, Baltasis Kiras, Antique Kaspirovskis Teeth, Antis, Colors of Bubbles and others. Unable to see or hear the bus, the Christmas recordings can later be found on one of the music platforms.
The Kaunas 2022 team also invites all Lithuanian artists to share the recordings of their songs, which would be played in the courtyards of the Kaunas apartment building, and thus contribute to the anticipation of Christmas.
