“I really don’t understand meetings that last five hours. Okay, maybe I need to talk, meet new committee members, but maybe not in conversations of that length.

It’s a shame that after so many hours of sitting and attending to a couple hundred participants, no one has had a sensible idea on how to solve this problem. I do not understand the purpose of such a meeting, which only expresses problems and does not present any proposal “, – criticized A.Veryga on Wednesday after the Government meeting.

During the meeting of the Committee on Health Affairs, its members highlighted the problems mentioned by the representatives of medical institutions and promised to prepare draft decisions next week.

Representatives from the largest and smallest treatment facilities said they had the same problem: There is a lack of doctors to work with COVID-19 patients. Some have suggested changes to the law to cover these patients beyond the infectious disease doctors and volunteers from other departments.

A.Veryga stated that until now it was not necessary to force doctors to work with COVID-19 patients, because the institutions supposedly solved this issue in some way.

“In a completely critical case, it is possible to use it so obligatorily. Until now, it was not needed, because the medical institution was finding solutions ”, he commented, urging to speak with doctors in good faith on this issue.

“Of course there are economic incentives, it is possible and necessary to pay, if working with COVID-19 patients, the supplements that the law grants, thus creating an economic motivation,” he added.

A.Veryga explained that the issue of personnel shortages must be resolved by the institutions themselves, the municipalities can help.

“It is possible to look for different additional motivational solutions. But this can only be done by the medical institutions themselves or, in individual cases, the municipalities to which the doctors must go.

Municipalities could, if a person comes from another place in Lithuania, offer accommodation, other services that would help to feel more physically comfortable for the doctors they have to use: provide meals, take them to the medical institution. But as I said: this should not be done by the ministry, we have created the conditions for our part ”, commented the minister.
