The government’s COVID-19 steering committee has discussed limiting the number of people allowed in the public to ban the promotion of the campaign, says outgoing Health Minister Aurelius Veryga.
“It has been proposed to reduce from five to two the number of people authorized to gather and meet in public places,” the minister told a news conference on Monday.
According to him, such a proposal is made after taking into account that people flocked to see the lighting of Christmas trees in large cities, although officially these events did not take place.
“The next proposal is specific: propose a ban on the advertising of shares and sales,” said the minister.
According to him, the goal is to reduce the flow of people in supermarkets, hoping that people are less encouraged to go to shopping centers.
According to the minister, although the number of cases no longer grows very suddenly, the situation remains difficult.
“We see that the number of cases in Lithuania is still really high, we see, like last week, some stabilization trends, but we don’t really see a decrease yet. We consider that this situation continues to be very complicated ”, said A. Veryga.
Since the start of the pandemic, 61,325 people have been infected with COVID-19, 46,378 are still ill, and 14,211 have recovered.
