According to the president’s senior adviser, Simonas Krėpšta, the meeting of the Council of Health Experts with the president focused on the spread of the virus and the spread of the epidemic.
“Experts note that the virus has slowed down, the effective rate of virus growth is approaching unity, but it appears that additional measures are needed to review quarantine requirements in riskier areas to fundamentally change the situation and significantly reduce infections “. he said.
He pointed out that according to the World Health Organization, the Pareto principle applies in the spread of a pandemic:
“In other words, about 20 percent. Situations are responsible for 80%. Infections Therefore, focusing on those areas where the risk of infection is highest would lead to better results,” said the President’s Counsel.
Almost half of the cases are not fully investigated
Dr. Vaidotas Zemlys-Balevičius said that he had received the data from the NVSC and did an analysis, which revealed that about half of the cases had not been fully investigated.
“NVSC compiles a description of the outbreak, the type of focus, the direct type of infection of the person and that information is sufficiently conflicting. Because, for example, we have a fireplace and its type, the description contradicts itself. And what turned out to be 50 percent. the cases have not been fully investigated. It’s kind of a saying about trends and things like that, it really doesn’t make sense because 50 percent. lies all the underwater waters, from which, we do not know, they come.
Excluding this 50 percent, family cases stand out, about 20 percent of them, but some of them are also unexplored. (…) The rest of the cases are characterized by workplaces, which have a constant source of infection. And high-risk areas: hospitals, care centers, he said.
The specialist noted that, consequently, the experts’ recommendations for the strengthening of quarantine and is a proposal to take into account workplaces and high-risk areas.
“And where there are unexplored family cases that we can recommend based on scientific recommendations, it is (…) to pay special attention to meeting places, especially in the family and in the circle of relatives and educational institutions. As the quarantine does not work, it is proposed to strengthen its measures, “said V. Zemlys-Balevičius.
The quarantine was delayed
He noted that in terms of where infections come from, educational institutions are one of them.
According to the expert, the quarantine was introduced late in Lithuania, so today a worse situation is observed.
V. Zemlys-Balevičius stated that comparing the data from other countries and Lithuania with the current quarantine with the current one, it can be seen that in the spring all the indicators decreased from their announcement to the end.
“In this case, we see that initially there was a positive effect, a decrease, and then it ‘rebounded’ again. This slowdown in growth has certainly been achieved, but the slowdown is not enough for us, “said the scientist.
The meeting also discussed the COVID-19 vaccines that are currently being prepared for distribution by three manufacturers (Sanofi / GSK, AstraZeneca and Pfizer / BNT), their characteristics and main differences. A representative of the Ministry of Health presented the plan for the procurement of vaccines and the start of vaccination in Lithuania.
Other members of the Council of Sanitary Experts initiated by the president, as well as the president of the Health Affairs Committee of the Seimas, Antanas Matulas, and members Rimantė Šalaševičiūtė, Jurgita Sejonienė and Orinta Leiputė, the Deputy Minister of Health Kristina Garuolienė, participated in the debate remote form.
“Stably difficult” situation
As previously mentioned by COO Aurelijus Veryga, the situation in the country remains stable.
“We see that the number of cases in Lithuania is still really high, we see, like last week, certain stabilization trends, but we don’t really see a decrease. That is why we consider that the situation continues to be very difficult, ”he said.
The interim minister also mentioned the new restrictions that are being prepared: the government will be offered stricter restrictions on the number of people, from 5 to 2 people. It is also proposed to prohibit merchants from promoting promotions and sales.
